1. He grazes the dawn with a restless gaze,
His heart inflamed with passion's blaze.

2. Gone are the days when he would roam,
And gather the sweet fruits of a scattered home.

3. He nurtured the beauty that was her ornament,
And tended the branch of yearning as it grew supple and bent.

4. The dawn uncovered her blossoms,
And the gentle morning breeze spread their fragrance wide.

5. I imagined she had lent her qualities
To the honorable, rightly-guided ruler.

6. His palm knew generosity, so she chose him
Before he knew to ask, before he was even created.

7. She goes and returns at her leisure,
Soaring through the land of men like a flaming bird.

8. O son of Jabr - no, let me not say "son of Jabr",
Ignorantly using a title more fitting.

9. For titles are like borrowed garments,
While names are the essence, the truth fulfilled.

10. I am not one to randomly proclaim about you.
Rather, I will only speak the truth.

11. You follow the disposition of your soul,
Constantly striving for its ambitions, holding nothing back.

12. Your excellence has interceded and ransomed it
As it seeks out achievements, no matter how difficult.

13. It is a quality the storyteller falls short of expressing,
And hearing is not like eyewitnessing the evident truth.

14. My poetry's longing reminds them of him,
While my heart longs to meet with you.

15. Strange that I have sent these rhymes
Toward a fruitful palm tree known for its charity,

16. Opening the door of affection that had been
Shut tight against people, with rhyming keys.

17. Addressing one noble of spirit there
On whom glory has placed the condition – do not reject.
