1. A gentle breeze carried to you a familiar scent
And a fleeting memory awakened forgotten years

2. A flash of lightning from your land blinked
And decreed that I stay awake while you sleep

3. It reminds me of the white smile on your face
And the red henna staining your fingers

4. The cold of night folded its spread as if
Passing by two homes, hesitant and unaware

5. That spread was but a greeting
Sent by the musk of the flowing locks

6. Sent by the soul of Ibn Qafrah
Whose flesh was nourished on the plains

7. A friend to the valleys of horses as if
He counts the villages as softer than a bed

8. When his strides cut through the land
His tail connected the mares with mystery

9. As if Ibn Hajar meant by his words
We will gain glory or die with honor

10. For the hopeful never attains the goal of glory
If he does not hope for the victorious fate

11. Dazzling as if time had sworn vigorously
By its might that no youth rejects destiny

12. Wishes come true for him, white as snow
Impregnable, vast, towering and sublime

13. The desires of fate clasp his hand in comfort
Cloudy, through which the comfort of land rises

14. When his eyelids and eyebrows smile
You see the radiant brow of glory

15. Calm is his dignity, until when war rages
He reins in the reckless spears to stop

16. When his horsehair stirs in the fray
Extending its flames into the air, blazing

17. You'd think fires rained down on every hill
Rising up in flames and burning

18. And if the palm of a hero shakes and brandishes it
And shows its blade in the throat of the foe

19. And wine of wounds intoxicates it, revealing
Its hidden fires in slaughter

20. Always prepared for Mansur's resolute triumphs
To be victorious whenever Mansur's banner triumphs

21. Terrifying hearts or delighting gazes
Thus the angry sword appears and tells

22. A sword in the grip of the righteous king
Before which the wings of resolve flee

23. If the day of havoc wields it, it moves ahead
If the enemy's castle wields it, it breaks through

24. Safeguarded until the time of battle, only
Baring the flies of its blade if war stirs

25. If the builder of lofty necks destroys them
He rebuilds the plains to prosper

26. With it he erected a wall around the abode of guidance
And adorned the towering glory with battlements

27. A young man who graced life with beauty’s charm
That outshone the radiance of the beaming sun

28. Al-Salih, the guiding protector of its glory
Saw its goodly traits as the truest and worthiest

29. So he washed his hands of it and bestowed it upon him
That he may praise and thank him

30. How many clouds rose from the sea of bounty
And emptied their rain into the sea's tide

31. A branch thrived in which the craft of its root
Blossomed with beautiful gratitude and bore fruit

32. The sincerity of his affection seduces you, so do not
In ignorance muddy the clear water of his affection

33. With your sword and help, son of the departed
You built glory for yourself from Qays and Ghassan

34. Your fine efforts took you to the highest
While those without effort fell behind

35. When the religion sought a goal, you supported it
All goals were dependent on your resolve

36. By my departed father, your glory said
Leave the past and speak of what you see

37. A young man whose glance in war is his army's prayer niche
And whose field is the home of reading and reciting

38. His open space welcomes delegations
And rises with poetry for those who meet him

39. If I compose excellent verse in his honor
He saw me with an eye the creation cannot see me with

40. He added generosity to nobility, so his
Representation of me absent and present was equal

41. His critique and censure refined my thoughts
He praised my poetry though his was more poetic

42. He clothed me in the fabrics of his writings
So I clothed him in the brocade of my praise

43. He was generous first, giving again and again
While I praised him with unmatched verse

44. Though I gifted him with the incessant words
Of goodness he heard, I confess to him

45. Whenever my heart flows to thank
What his generosity made obligatory before a palace

46. Even if my eloquence attained what I want
I would compose for him a string of stars into prose
