1. He smiled in the night of youth though he was gray
So morning came with the coldness of worry and he was bleak

2. We did not recognize what we used to know
And reason comes and goes in youth

3. He who nears fifty years even if
He lives among his family, he is a stranger

4. The days did not remain for us, rather
The arrows of death miss and hit

5. Yet the breaths of life are sweet
And our souls sing with joy and melt

6. We drank the days a bitter cup
Its surface tastes sweet and good to us

7. And we force with our tongues to oppose it
While our hearts believe otherwise

8. It is as if people’s minds are a flock of doves
Circling around its basins confused

9. How much the young man’s wisdom is lost
While he is decisive, hopes lead him astray

10. How much it deceived him like a mirage
That the eyes believe though it’s an illusion

11. Whoever lives in the shade of contentment
Will not be deprived by enemies or loved ones

12. My friend, send words to the nights on my behalf
Since being absent from a friend subs in

13. Good living has changed after righteousness
And the beauty of my days became flaws

14. I was pleased like the defeated satisfied without revenge
And I have anger in tribulations I chastise

15. I called upon you to purify yourselves
Is there among you one who answers my call?

16. If not, then I have nothing but patience
Indeed, the patience of the patient is near

17. I picked flowers of tears at the rising
That sets behind my eyelids

18. Does my cheek dry of the spring of my tears
While my livelihood from His blessings is fruitful?

19. The agony of sadness and sorrow leaves me
And I have hopes in His gifts and deprivation

20. I shortened my elegy for Him every moment
While sorrows for Him have scars in my heart

21. Can I forget while the image of His kind face remains
In my eyes and the time of departure is near?

22. If I tried to compose a poem it diverts me
To the memory of Him and our relationship

23. My youthful spirit leans to eulogize Him
As the supple branch bends freely

24. The whims of my love and pain pull me
To Him though whims have different forms

25. Does He know that the stranger from passion
Resides in my heart since he dwelled?

26. If my years shine remembering a tale
My heart remains gloomy as long as I live

27. If I were fair to Your blessings I would not taste despair
Nor be intimate with soft pillows

28. If not for living in Your victorious state
I would not forgive sins and wrongdoings

29. The sun rose while the moon was absent
So the rising forgave what the setting committed

30. And life came to You repenting
Kissing the fringes of the ground, repenting

31. No wonder if an opinion changes
Opinions can become confused then clear

32. You remain forgiving all crimes
Though patience is vast it has limits

33. For You the days are slaves and kings are subjects
Replacing a people at times and rewarding at others

34. If anyone other than You wanted this shirt
It would be taken from the cloth of life tomorrow

35. Spear blades have pierced its hems
And swords have covered its pockets

36. That was denied by the tribes of your enemies
A morning whose companionship is painful

37. Kings who show us peace and war whenever
Their sitting and riding appear

38. While You are a spear in the canal where they
Are all pipes and curves for it

39. The tribes despaired after their peoples' disunity
And lamented their lost hopes

40. They bear the burdens of leadership frivolously
Like children playing with incidents

41. The absent one sees things as if
The unseen spoke to him clearly due to wisdom

42. Frightening hearts or pleasing sights
With a face of abundant smiles yet formidable

43. One moment gentle and another firm
Like a spear shaking yet upright

44. You took this matter firmly
Calming the heart of resolve though formidable

45. And managed the times and its people
An expert in curing puzzles

46. I have given it the name of victorious Nasiriyah
Stopping the spread of fate though growing

47. When the trees of calligraphy disputed
No wind comes between them

48. The great kingdom befits You because it is
Your brother without compare or relative

49. Its branches are from the Salahi state
A root for it grew lofty and firm

50. You have gathered all sovereignty in yourself
And your branch is fresh from the water of youth

51. Every aspect of glory has become for it
From you a large share and portion

52. The generosity of a palm whose bounty
Knows how the rain cloud aims

53. A formidable might whose arrows
Could split unbroken youth

54. You spread the carpet of justice until
A sheep and wolf in the wilderness accompanied justice

55. And carried out the rulings of grievances equitably
May God reward you for it as the Reckoner

56. You were extreme in fairness and justice so
The needles of oppression for them are blunted

57. And you equalized between us in the scale of your justice
So the innocent became afraid and the sinner corrected

58. You made the duty of Hajj obligatory after it was dropped
So it became after being dropped a duty

59. And facilitated reaching the House after hardship
So lands and wildernesses became narrow

60. By your justice the heavens circle the edge of the seas
And mirages settle in the desert sands

61. Every season the House of God
Had laments for its visitors and weeping

62. Calling the kings of the world east and west
Isn’t there one who is called and responds?

63. When your white days came they did not pass
And you proposed marriage to their time

64. You donated gifts for the pilgrim delegation
Generosities you were not miserly to grant

65. You preceded the people of Iraq and others
While you earn rewards and dress

66. You left vitality in the two Holy Mosques
Though the face of the Two Holy Mosques was bleak

67. You relieved the obligation on Bani Falaytah
And the sins of the people of the Valley

68. And made it an endowment for pure good
Some of the people have pure and impure

69. If the wood of crops is dry it brings back life
And if the udder dries it brings back milk

70. You made a year happy, if I could express
It will come while I am like me in praising you
