1. My heart is burning with longing and passion
My eyelids shed copious tears and I cannot rest

2. Let your eyes overflow with tears on your cheek
For his thoughts are lost in the sea of passion

3. On the cheek of the one with the beauty mark, a red hot ember
Over which the morning dew drops glisten

4. An untamed gazelle, following whatever creed
My heart and body remain captive, though I walk free

5. And I know not why your phantom visits my mind
Does it envy what we share or lament our separation?

6. I recalled your slender waist with the belt of twisted silk
On the branches, clasped with rings

7. Swaying when the breeze blows as if
The gilded belt was wrapped around it

8. It weeps though we were intimate friends
While between you and I lies a gulf no effort can bridge

9. An unknown land with paths left unmarked
And an untouched meadow no caravan dares tread

10. We embarked to attain wealth, bearing hardship
Despite abundant sustenance, my share was so slight

11. I'm astonished that sustenance evades me
Quenching others, leaving me drowned

12. The days are unaware that my charm and beauty
Lie in my speech, when I recite poetry

13. But I think sustenance is attracted to your burning desire
And fine incense, when lit, smells sweet

14. I believe generosity is either a fable
Whose people have passed or a facade with no heart

15. Else why are my coffers now empty though my mouth
Was a mine of pearls spent freely in the market

16. Perhaps if the Ayyubids knew of the wrong I suffer
They would show mercy and compassion

17. And deliver me from servitude to their subject
And servant, who is time, setting me free

18. Kings who protected the caravan of truth with resolve
By which Allah opened lands and closed others

19. Raiding the nest of the pagans with a public invasion
While the banner of polytheism falls, hammered down

20. And visiting the Masjid of Ascalon proudly
Its vessel of righteousness overflowing

21. Before you, the paths were thickets of thorns
No caravan would dare tread or take that road

22. And only fortresses protected them from you
Carefully fortified, though it took great effort

23. You brought them war's tumult, meeting their walls
With trenches dug around, besieging them

24. And you destroyed their every standing structure
So that imagination itself shuns the ruins

25. To the reward of jihad, you added a visit
To the Friend, glad tidings to you, blessed fighter

26. You stirred for the Holy House a painful longing
By which desire for it flows constantly to you

27. The sweetest scent exudes from your abode
Gladdening the heart of piety when you appear

28. This raid signals an imminent conquest
Or at least a precursor, breaking the seal

29. It is the House - when you liberate it, God willing
No door to Syria thereafter will stay barred

30. You left the pagans' hearts anxious and fearful
While the flag of victory flutters over your head

31. If Islam was restless, it now calms
For you have unsettled the mind of unbelief

32. You followed in Salah al-Din's auspicious path
Soaring high above the heavens

33. And you were born a noble star looked upon
By the hopeful eyes of all the kingdoms

34. Goodness to you, long have I waited
While others gained sustenance, mine was held back

35. As if news of your generosity never reached the West
Or tales of your giving, the East

36. Yet I know from the dating of your days
The calendar itself is erased and annulled

37. I have believed what you said or I state
You are the best of people, and truth is unshakable

38. Enough that I turn my hopes to you and in you place my trust
May my thoughts of you surpass hope and be fulfilled
