1. I felt secure from passion in my heart
And from anyone who would misguide my reason

2. And I trained my heart to be content
Until it became part of my nature and habit

3. And experience aimed my bow
To hit the path of righteousness

4. So disgrace does not start my day
Nor do I give my fingers free rein

5. And I have, from the knight of Islam, a pillar
Firm in dangerous times of valor

6. A generous man whom I have only known
To make my path prosperous and arm my supplies

7. My sight is purified each day
And my thoughts are of achieving aspirations

8. He has a cheerful face that rushes to greetings
And manners that ward off ignoble traits

9. Sincere, he does not conceal any wrong
Sparks of evil beneath the ashes

10. Firm in his resolves, difficult
Yet gentle in prosperity, easy to lead

11. When you awaken his determination for endeavors
You've stirred a serpent in a valley's womb

12. And if you see him in the arena of battle
You see my father's lion in his den

13. Swords wander lost against his heights
When the battlefield is too narrow for the pursuer

14. You always see the heads of his enemies
Rising on the tips of spears and mountain peaks

15. And the black robes of mourning on the lands
He bombarded with his deadly blade

16. And most often you see him steadfast
When the coward shirks from the executioner

17. Is he not the leader of the glorious army
As if its armor were a torrent of hands

18. Scourging his enemies with defeat
When it descends upon the battlefields of foes

19. He raids out of piety, not for spoils
Against them, striving in holy war

20. How often guidance is delighted when
His shoulders and arms are praised in song

21. The best leaders' resolves are tied to his
As he walks the path of glory

22. Long of arm, generous of palm, you see
His hands giving to theneedy

23. He gives generously from the soil of hopes
Cooling the pain of those who despair

24. Even inanimate tongues praise him
For his generous hands in the lean years

25. And he taught me to praise him with hands
That strain to encompass his great deeds

26. So if my steps stray, it is to Egypt
That I have strayed, and found my wish

27. I gained by its Nile and found a Nile
Whose rising waters quenched my thirst

28. And when all other funds were lacking
And the people's chatter faulted my taste

29. I turned my aim to the Beni Rasik
Who returned my affection without reserve

30. I gave the best rhymes to praise their glory
Matching what they gave from their hands

31. They made my tongue, in generosity
The speaker singing their name in every club

32. So I found wondrous, when I expressed
The strange beauties of merits and lands

33. Rhymes that chase the glory's track
To return it to its first place

34. And how I've spent nights praising their heights
Preferring wakefulness over slumber

35. Joining poetry's different pieces
With lines my unique talent weaves

36. That appear wondrous when I recite them
Walking the path of originality and guidance

37. And I feared not straying from my aim
For from the guides I took a guide

38. I strung with skill pearls of his state
Guided by sincere devotion in the stringing

39. Most noble, he enriched my aim toward him
After praise's sincerity faded

40. His obeyed command allotted sustenance
To hopes in the hands of men

41. And were it not for the righteous guide of Egypt
Righteousness would not be known from corruption

42. He is exalted in glory, from Gassan an ally
Whose glory's storms blew over Bani Munadh

43. And were it not for the firm resolve in him
That annealed when they unsheathed blades

44. He would have undermined the pillars of the state
With the advance of pillars given in tribute

45. And he watered the branch of his state with bounty
Reaping from its branches the fruit of affection

46. And he appointed a seven year old child command
To whom the settlements and lands submit

47. It's not strange, his father was Badr
When he reached the limits of aspirations

48. If the noble surpassed, it's no innovation
When the steed surpasses the steed
