1. I call out to companions who do not respond,
And praise in verse those who do not reward.

2. I spend days with worries that say,
Melt away, O my soul, however you wish!

3. I asked how was your state,
And you said, "I'm sick, uncured by any doctor."

4. No good comes from one whose stomach hungers
Even if he eloquently spoke pure Arabic one day.

5. He who holds his companions to blame for the sin of time
Has brought about amazing misguidance in this age.

6. I burden them with what is not permissible, as though
I had ladled onto them hot embers with raisins.
