1. In moments like these, words flow freely
Choosing the finest rhymes with ease

2. This honored stance, were it not for its nobility
No shooting stars would grace the seven heavens

3. This stance, were it not for its commands
Neither home nor veil would have honor

4. The light of sonship radiates herein
Dazzling all who look, and willpower burns like fire

5. Eternal in this court, dreams and nightmares mingle
White wishes and dark sorrows churn

6. In his chest, a victor with triumph hidden
With his light and crown of glory fixed

7. Blessed is his face, auspicious his leadership
Revealed in the rising of eras and times

8. Look upon his face, you look upon a guiding imam
The best of mortals, pleasing angel or making them wrathful

9. He cannot equal the kings of earth in nobility
Except as zero equals gold

10. Of a people whose glory the world has aged
And their clothes are loose and frayed

11. Without blessings upon you, none who prays is answered
Nor a call lifted above the veil

12. You are the firmest handhold, never broken
And loving you is reason to enter Heaven

13. Boasting of praising you brings pride to the praiser
And loyalty to you brings provision and return

14. What garments praise with pride and perfumes your name
As sincerity shines however dense the lies

15. Virtues like brilliant stars have filled
Ears and books with the beauty of their rhythms

16. The verses of Quran came singing your praise
What more can poetry and prose accomplish?

17. To the people of this palace Allah has granted
Wonders of purpose from his mysteries

18. When Ibn Badis wanted to destroy them
And the supporters of the light of guidance vanished

19. The hand of the Almighty refused him
A hand attributed to the line of your ancestors

20. Without Abu al-Gharat the vizier no banners
Of victory waved in the palace, no swords were sharpened

21. Nor was Ali aided in the crisis
Of non-Arab and Arab tribes

22. When the horses were brought close to him
Nothing protected him but fleeing and escape

23. The king's aggression when you came to visit him
Was a shame no gazelle's stride could warrant

24. He assumed power, oh what wretched power for his loyalists
And had you met, fleeing could not have saved him

25. And God supported the religion of truth through you
With a hand whose might and conquest cannot be doubted

26. His deeds have made him not need to boast of Ali
Though his noble fathers established its foundations

27. And a man whose worries have made him self-sufficient
Has no need of what his late father and forebears built

28. His resolve protected the sanctity of sublime things
So that its borders became like a lion's den avoided

29. In it the wolf accompanies the lamb in safety
Trusting the hidden one though hungry like a scepter

30. So the soul is not seen there while it is snatched away
Nor money while it is being pillaged

31. Does a flock feel secure there when it is guaranteed
Safety where eggs and milk go undisturbed?

32. And power, if it lacked forgiving restraint
Upon the disobedient, the very air would burn

33. And mercy – the Merciful thanks its compassion
With it, forbearance extinguishes fires akin to anger

34. And comfort that makes life pleasant, though it never
Considered its actions a favor or kept count of what it gives

35. And conduct such that who tells of it
Spreads lovely renown wished for by the clouds

36. You have added to the honor of ennoblement favors
Beyond what gratitude can adequately repay

37. You have made this my greatest moment, so I see
The light of guidance; the veils are lifted from its face

38. It is enough that serving you among all people brings me pride
If ancestry fails me or lineage leaves me lowly

39. For you, O family of Zahra, will never cease
And your days are like the serpent – past and coming

40. The lowest of people is exalted by serving you
And through it the noble and ranked gain advantage

41. O son of sons, a call whose owner’s heart
Does not turn to thinking ill of others

42. The rhymes have met you while confident
That you who hoped for them will not lack requests

43. How many occasions have called out your name
Saying, “O you who praise, leave praising bereft!”

44. But you are too generous to be called to a favor
That would obligate you among the noble and dignified

45. The new moon is delighted if it meets its visitor
And the kingdom’s refuge is the evening conversation of stars

46. Your brilliant kingdom’s face smiles
Its mouth clear, charming, curved and dimpled

47. Jumada passed, and in its belly burns
Separation's agony unknown to Rajab

48. Perhaps Shaban will spur you to visit
Singing the songs of love that make gladness hop

49. So bring joy to its passing days and the ones to come
Worthy of high resolve and endless eras

50. Continually pleased by the righteous king
Whose affection remains when sons of fathers perish
