1. Lightness of spirit and avoidance of heaviness
Is an opening for contentment, the door of expression

2. So let the stubborn one leave me be
He does not know where the gazelle comes from

3. My mind is focused on poetry of a unique hue
What soul is not touched by boredom?

4. Every day, toil and praise and reproach
Ignite the heart like kindling dry grass

5. It seemed to me I should make seriousness into jest
So let the critic say what he wishes

6. When asked, "Are you not just
In this, in that, from the mother of justice?"

7. If we examined our own justness, we'd be shamed
And find the best of men as rabble

8. But I am in the reign of the King who
Revived guidance and killed misguidance

9. Hiding faults, keeping secrets, we hope
For his benevolence and fear his wrath

10. A king who assumed responsibility
When affairs of duty were entrusted to him

11. He inherited glory from his father, so we said
Abu Shuja did not inherit it tarnished

12. He surpassed the people of the age, east and west
And by their deficiencies we knew his perfection

13. God spread over the plain and mountain
His right hand and left, all together

14. So avoid his life, and give him life
Every beautiful time displays his beauty

15. O leader, though the days denied me since
We knew your bounty

16. I brought a need, in which I have
No share when fulfilled, except telling of your kindness

17. I had two bundles, which sacred law
Required I hand over to the noble one

18. So you graciously granted sugar and rams
However you wished, cash or credit

19. If only my adversary were in debt and you
Became my champion, his tresses would be shorn

20. By your wise view my confidence
And recovery from my joblessness and unemployment

21. Let the world say without disagreement
Doing good belongs to those who own it

22. As for claims, if we return to truth
Foolishness and ignorance are upon you

23. What right do you have over your guest
You have fulfilled your duty to him

24. His poetry to the king is but a dog
Barking at people over garbage
