1. Does Najm al-Din know that I have abundant praise
And sincere affection for his great virtue?

2. Does he know that I am a poet for his glory
And not pretentious about his high rank?

3. But his secret affection is like his overt one,
So what I conceal is like what I express.

4. May God forgive me for praising a group
Whose blame I shared and whose praise I reproached.

5. Shall I fabricate false words about them when
My efforts to guide you have failed?

6. And praising you, O champion of obedience,
Draws me nearer to obeying God and glory.

7. Why not, when you have might, religion and dew,
With endless, boundless superior merit?

8. Your house stems from Ali bin Aamir
When genealogies are recounted as proof.

9. If poetry were not too shy of your generosity that spread
As visitors to every land and delegation,

10. I would say: during your days of generosity
God watered the days though they're now remote from me.

11. So the feasts continue to find you welcoming them
While you keep the bond ever flourishing.
