1. Had it not been for my love of you, I would not have returned
The greeting of this unjust ruler.

2. I only pretend to obey him out of fear of his tyranny,
While exile is better than living under an oppressor.

3. If only he would be satisfied with exiling me with you,
For exile is no burden for me.

4. O Hind, you are my soul - if we are parted
The tomb will bid welcome to whoever comes to it.

5. Do not blame me, for humiliation alongside love
Is easier than eternal separation.

6. Had you not been my soul, I would have raised my hand
To strike the forehead of that ruler.

7. O Hind, living in Lebanon is not pure
Nor is the poet's cradle always gentle.

8. If you leave, my camel is saddled,
And if you stay, I have no peace.
