1. I wandered in the garden
As the dawn began to break
١. سِرْتُ في الرَّوضِ
وقد لاحَتْ تَباشيرُ الصَّباحِ
2. And the wing of morning bore me
Toward the maidens fair and meek
٢. وجَناحُ الفَجْرِ يومي
نَحْوَ رَبَّاتِ الجَناحِ
3. The gloom it hastened slowly
Like a wounded gazelle in flight
٣. والدُّجى يَسْعى رُوَيْداً
سَعْيَ غَيْداءَ رَدَاحِ
4. The morning breeze flowed gently
Rustling through the trees at night
٤. ونَسيمُ الصُّبْحِ يَسْري
سَجْسَجاً فَوقَ البِطاحِ
5. The stream it babbled sweetly
Like the garden's song so bright
٥. وخَريرُ النَّهْرِ سَكْرا
نٌ وزَهْرُ الرَّوضِ صاحِ
6. The horizon thundered grandly
As the winds took sudden flight
٦. فَرَنَتْ نَحْوَ جَلالِ الكَوْ
نِ جَوْناءُ اللِّياحِ
7. Then appeared in shameless guise
What a shocking sight!
٧. ثمَّ بانَتْ في سُفو
رٍ فاضِحٍ أيَّ افْتِضاحِ
8. She sipped the red wine's rapture
From the vine leaves' bowl uptilted
٨. فاحْتَسَتْ خَمْرَ نَدى الدَّا
مِسِ من كاسِ الأقاحِ
9. Bilqis rose on the throne of night
In those parts remote and guiltless
٩. واعْتَلَتْ بَلْقيسُ عَرْشَ
اللَّيلِ في تِلْكََ النَّواحي
10. Then she inclined toward a sunset
After the burning of the light
١٠. ثمَّ مالَتْ لِغُروبٍ
بَعْدَ إضْرامِ الكِفاحِ
11. And the night reigned despite
The sun in its broad domains
١١. واستوى اللَّيلُ بِرَغْمِ الشَّمْ
سِ في العَرْشِ الفُساحِ
12. Thus is the way of fate
Coming and going
١٢. هكذا الدَّهرُ بأزياءٍ
غُدُوٍ ورُواحِ
13. Gleaming and gloaming
Silence and crying
١٣. وضياءٍ وظلامٍ
وسُكونٍ وصِياحِ
14. Song and sighing
Closing and prying
١٤. ونَشيدٍ وفَواحٍ
وانقِباضٍ وانْشِراحِ
15. The ages but fickle
Like a night full of trials
١٥. إنَّما الدَّهرُ وَميثا
قُ اللَّيالي كَشُجاحِ
