1. Yesterday it delighted him and made him joyful
And today it pained him, so what will tomorrow bring?

As groups of light lying in wait for you

9. And you’d look at the birds and think them
The dreams of love twittering around you

10. And you’d look at the flowers and think them
Love’s smiles greeting you

11. So you imagined the universe confiding in you
And the beauty of the world making you happy

12. And the stars of night smiling at you
And the whisper of the forest chasing you

13. And you imagined the roses flirting with you
As you frolicked and played with them

14. And you saw the spring and its glance
And the morning breeze ruffling it

15. And the babbling brook like a melody
With the woodland breezes echoing it

16. And you saw the slender grass that had shot up
Among the trees observing you

17. And the sash of a little child fluttering
So love shone brightly and you praised it

18. Oh what days that have gladdened
A heart among people only to consume it later!

19. Like a whore whose lover
She wines and dines then casts aside

20. Today she gives you her sweetness
Like honey only to rob you of it tomorrow

21. Last night she passionately embraced you
And slept alongside you

22. But today she walks beside you like a spectre
Grief has emaciated him and soured his disposition

23. In the woods he recites his elegies
With the cedar boughs supporting him

24. And he walks among people but not one of them
Can fathom his isolation

25. In the night of desolation his bed
Is the cave of loneliness

26. Yesterday’s voices torture him
And the spectre of death threatens him

27. Yesterday the universe had a sunset for him
That illuminated the horizon with its blushing

28. But today the night has blinded him
So nothing in the world makes him happy
