1. Greetings, O first Muslim
Who transcended the two horizons

2. The Nile and the Bosphorus vied
To grab the train of his robe

3. The day you rode your Buraq
And traversed the barren desert

4. Frolicking with the wind
Across the plateaus and seas

5. Had your thoughts raced ahead
Misfortune would have tripped them

6. The horizon envied you
And vapor hid in the earth

7. You swam parting a path
That split your wrap

8. And nearly struck the ether
Turning it into embers

9. Like a shooting star smashed
The tracks of a roaming ghost

10. When you rose like the cry
Of the desperate, piercing the veil

11. And when you dove like the plunge
Of a female eagle over its playground

12. Swerving here and there
Making the watcher think you’d landed

13. Though you hadn’t landed
The steed frolicked less

14. Than a Qudha’a or Nizari
Or like the games of protective beasts

15. Cavorting in their yard
And as if in the horizon when

16. The scale of daylight tilts
And the sun casts over you

17. Robes of red and yellow
A king you represent to us

18. Dazzling our sight
So swear by your Lord for what

19. You saw in that revolving sphere
Did you convey the praise

20. Of the angels or draw near to secrets
Or did you fear those watchers

21. There of comets and fire?
Did you see the inhabitants

22. Of the stars while in that vicinity
Are the flaws of vegetation

23. There on Mars like those on earth
Does the weak prey

24. Upon the strong there without redress
What excess for man

25. In his tyranny that he transgressed!
I wish I knew: does he

26. Have vengeance in the angelic realm
Or has he sought refuge

27. Clinging to the Omnipotent King’s throne?
So prepare to take off

28. When you reach the extent of flight
Then visit Suhail and Furqadain

29. If the shrines become accessible
And ask the stars about life

30. For in asking is a lesson
They inform you that all

31. Creatures are liable to perish
And that injustice is inherent in the system

32. So if you are wronged, do not resist
He who created the mighty

33. Is He who created the atom
In the highest and lowest realms

34. There are laws that are executed
The weak was created to serve

35. The strong and has no options
So be pious, for the strong will intimidate you

36. While the small haunt you
In the land you wish for glory

37. And great hopes
In it lies the iron and the flint

38. The day the ignoble will be disgraced
In it lie the abundant treasures

39. For those who are insightful and enlightened
From it drew his power he who conquered realms

40. And borrowed weapons from he who invaded
With what it contained the sound opinion

41. Repelled the attack of the aggressors
Entrust your secret and return

42. To that homeland
And send our greetings

43. To the land where reign has its seat
The seat of the caliphate and guidance

44. Where the minaret of light was erected
The home of conquering elite

45. The best of men, well refined
In every civilized place they have

46. A conquest, then an opening, then victory
They lashed the times with the whip of their glory

47. Shining for them, inexhaustible
They walk in thickets of spears

48. With the strut of one inebriated by perfume
The most valiant of brave warriors

49. Consulting nothing but their own zeal
Of terrible striking power

50. Not that of the alluring coquette
Assailing ambitions, gambling his soul

51. As if it were a game of chance
Never wavering nor the planets

52. Departing their orbit
Gloomy were their days to them

53. And gloom gives way to joy
They never blamed that ascent

54. In life is followed by descent
For every risen one has a collapse

55. And for every glow there’s an eclipse
Soon their star will rise high

56. And that emblem will turn pitch black
