8. If only we follow your example or compete with you,
Perhaps we may regain what was lost!

9. For in us, were it not for cowardice, are valorous men,
When they are left to pasture freely.

10. And minds that, were it not for ignorance,
Would overflow with creativity and innovation.

11. And advocates for good—if they were given their due praise—
Would fill the East with glory and steadfastness.

12. O discoverer of electricity, if only you would devise
An invention to tame unruly natures;

13. A machine to crush procrastination in the East
And cast off the cloak of hypocrisy!

14. We have wearied of standing there lamenting
Over transient glory and forfeited renown.

15. And we are sick of their saying that Zayd
Was a genius, and Amr was courageous.

16. I wonder when will Egypt vie
With others for glory and fiercely compete,

17. And we see her proudly boast to the people
Of achievements circulating far and wide?

18. O land of Columbus, which of your plants is most precious,
In wealth and lasting possession?

19. Men who possess the heights of grandeur?
Or blossoms possessing plains?

20. None but you are graced by heaven, fertility, and security.
You remain a refuge for peace.

21. Survey the universe and behold what it offers you;
The pillar of peace in it has crumbled away.
