1. Night's gloom has fallen, so when will you sleep?
Does wakefulness deny you rest or sorrow keep?

2. The grieving and complaining are now both asleep,
As is he who bears adversity, while you still weep,

3. Turning your palms this way and that, sickness steals your sleep,
Tears streamed down your cheeks till clouds learned from your eyes to weep,

4. Your tossing and turning startled the darkness awake
You argue with fate while the world succumbs to slumber's embrace

5. You hid your love from us until silence itself gave voice to your case
By your Lord, has passion returned, or the past been displaced?

6. Gray hairs shine like swords fixed to your cheeks by time's embrace
Does it befit an author, jewel of Egypt, to cry like a babe weaned from its place?

7. Passion distracts you from Egypt’s plight, while in the tyrant’s grip it is debased
If my heart holds any love but Egypt, let me from love's circle be erased

8. I recall her glory when mighty Pharaohs ruled that virtuous place
When men were men, and time itself was her devoted race

9. What happens there disturbs me, while Egypt therein lies disgraced
I see a people brought low by a crippling disease no cure can chase

10. When one year of woe passes, another appears in its place
The plague of resignation has spread till livelihood is displaced

11. It defies our wise men, as leprosy defies a cure or treatment space
Just as a man’s death stems from his hesitation, a people's death stems from disgrace

12. We have grown weak and divided, with no efforts made to unite this place
Our plight in Egypt has worsened, as others thrive and our station is debased

13. No wonder our own ways have conquered us, while most of us slumber in night’s embrace
Awaken, Hussein, men who pursue truth and justice but now rest in night’s embrace

14. Help your brother’s son as your father helped you, for in your hands salvation has its place
Bring concord to the council hall, for discord has destroyed this oasis space

15. Teach them to confront adversity, for one like you will not be daunted in combat’s face
The Party of the Right, though few, are honorable men fixed in your embrace

16. The Party of the Left has lions, unbroken, though now they suffer loss and night’s embrace
Be for this land, seize every chance, let no setback your resolve displace

17. They never ruled us by miracles, but by divisions they found space
Trust not their promises, their statesmen are clouds that bring no rain to this place

18. But fear them when they are kind, for I see their politicians have no guiding trace
How often the Consul laughed at our speeches, disarming us with a smile on his face

19. Abul-Falah, affairs are chaos, and ignorance paired with chaos is our disgrace
So enlighten us by spreading knowledge, and know any lack seeks its own erase

20. Knowledge alone cannot avail us if determination does not knowledge embrace
Without a constitution Egypt will not endure, for that is its one saving grace

21. They prohibited our drinking the Nile’s water pure, claiming it our life erases,
But death is not in pure water, rather in the companies that profit from legal disgrace

22. Exploiting our ignorance, they plundered our wealth, with the tramways first in their race
Woe to the canal if the British take it, as the veil falls from colonialism’s face

23. Only remnants are left us in this world, glorifying ruins in place of our race
We who made it a bridle find the bridle broken if from our hands it slips in its race

24. Oh palace of governance, I know not what your bag contains, war or a peace to displace?
Tell us, do you plan progress or further regression for our displaced race?

25. And O Party of the Right, we cry to you, your arrows and spears no longer find their place
And O Party of the Left, upon you from us and from the sons of your Najd be safety and grace
