2. The time has come to bid farewell to the leader
It is right that lovers and enemies bid him farewell

3. So bid farewell for us to the towering mountain
And walk with us to the sea that was turbulent

4. And send him our utmost reverence
Even if he was not provisioned with eternal possessions

5. Why do we not see the pyramids collapsing, O Nile
And Pharaoh departing from your valley tomorrow

6. As if you were not saddened by him and did not
See safety and stability in Pharaohโs protection

ุชูุฑู ูู ุญูู
ู ููุฑุนูููู ุฃูู
ูุงู ูููุง ุฌูุฏุง
7. Peace, even if we do wrong to the dearest ones
They have wronged us, we would not have extended a hand to them

ุง ู

8. We will fold the hands you extended to us
For we are not an ungrateful nation

9. We felt safe so fear did not take its course
And we slept so terror did not disturb our slumber

10. You were kind-hearted, protecting our weak
And averting the vicissitudes of fate if they harmed

ููุชูุฏููุนู ุนูููุง ุญุงุฏูุซู ุงูุฏููุฑู ุฅูู ุนูุฏุง
11. If not for the sorrow in Dinshaway and anguish
And tragedy that saddened hearts and livers
ูกูก. ููููููุง ุฃูุณูู ูู ุฏููุดููุงูู ูููููุนูุฉู
ูููุงุฌูุนูุฉู ุฃูุฏู
ูุช ููููุจุงู ููุฃููุจูุฏุง
12. And your depiction of the East as a naked savage
And making the people zealously biased

ูููู ุดูุนุจุงู ุจูุงูุชูุนูุตููุจู ุบุงูููุงู
ููุชูุตููุฑููู ุงูุดูุฑููููู ุบูุฑูุงู ู
ูุฌูุฑููุฏุง
13. We would have felt sorrow on the day of farewell
For we see in you that reconciling reformer

ููุฑู ูููู ุฐุงูู ุงูู
ูุตููุญู ุงูู

14. Opinions diverged regarding you, one says
You enriched the people of the country and made them prosper
ูกูค. ุชูุดูุนููุจูุชู ุงูุขุฑุงุกู ูููู ูููุงุฆููู
ุฃููุงุฏู ุงูุบููู ุฃูููู ุงูุจููุงุฏู ููุฃูุณุนูุฏุง
15. And you had a policy with reformers
Where sometimes you were lenient, other times firm
ูกูฅ. ูููุงููุช ูููู ูู ุงูู
ูุตููุญููู ุณููุงุณูุฉู
ุชูุฑูุฎููุตู ูููุง ุชุงุฑูุฉู ููุชูุดูุฏููุฏุง
16. He saw all glory in enriching the people
So he fought the army of poverty until it scattered
ูกูฆ. ุฑูุฃู ุงูุนูุฒูู ููููู ุงูุนูุฒูู ูู ุจูุณุทูุฉู ุงูุบููู
ููุญุงุฑูุจู ุฌููุดู ุงููููุฑู ุญูุชูู ุชูุจูุฏููุฏุง
17. And he provided you with the blessed Nile
Fertile, quenching, and purveying for its people

ุชูุนูููู
ุจูุงููููู ููููู ู
ูุจุงุฑููู
ุนููู ุฃูููููู ุฎูุตุจุงู ููุฑูููุงู ููู
ููุฑูุฏุง
18. And allowed freedom of speech when
He saw speech bound and shackled in silence

ุญูุฑูููููุฉู ุงูููููู ุนููุฏูู
ุง
ุฑูุฃู ุงูููููู ูู ุฃูุณุฑู ุงูุณูููุชู ู
ููููููุฏุง
19. Another did not focus only on wealth
He sees that wealth alone does not ensure guidance

ูููุตูุฑ ุนููู ุงูู

ููุฑู ุฃูููู ุฐุงูู ุงูู
ุงูู ูุง ููููููู ุงูููุฏู
20. So he does not praise enriching
Unless adorned with knowledge, and the best knowledge guides

21. He calls out to you, you have aided with knowledge and proof
And did not leave any institute for education intact

ู ูุง ููุฑุฏู ู

22. And you willfully made the country fertile
Yet willfully made minds barren in Egypt

23. You destroyed the mother of all languages, and that
Is ruin upon us or a path to demise

ููุถุงุกู ุนูููููุง ุฃูู ุณูุจููู ุฅููู ุงูุฑูุฏู
24. You met your end under the banner of darkness
So you continued to rebel in the Sudan until you fell
ูขูค. ูููุงูููุชู ููุงูููุทุฑุงูู ูู ุธูููู ุฑุงููุฉู

ุง ุฒููุชู ุจูุงูุณูุฏุงูู ุญูุชูู ุชูู

25. Just as your successor fell afterwards
And our efforts were lost due to your greed

ูุตููููุนู ุจูุนุฏููู

ูุณุงุนููุง ุจูุฃูุทู

26. You obscured the light of journalism from its darkness
And did not have independence until you obscured the supported one

ุชูุณุชูููู ุญูุชูู ุญูุฌูุจุชู ุงูู

27. And deposited your farewell concealing ridicule
We saw the coldness of your nature embodied in it

ุฑูุฃูููุง ุฌููุงุกู ุงูุทูุจุนู ูููุง ู

28. You ridiculed the religion of the Prophet, and we
Will be angry if you angered Ahmad in his grave

ูุฒุชู ุจููุง ุฏููู ุงูููุจูููู ููุฅูููููุง
ููููุบุถูุจู ุฅูู ุฃูุบุถูุจุชู ูู ุงูููุจุฑู ุฃูุญู

29. He calls out to you, where are the brilliant poets in your time
And which lofty constructions were renewed
ูขูฉ. ูููุงุฏููู ุฃูููู ุงููุงุจูุบููู ุจูุนููุฏูููู
ููุฃูููู ุจููุงุกู ุดุงู
ูุฎู ููุฏ ุชูุฌูุฏููุฏุง
30. The days of Ismail and living straitened
Are more fertile than your days which flowed with misery

ุง ุนููุฏู ุฅูุณู
ุงุนููู ููุงูุนููุดู ุถูููููู
ุจูุฃูุฌุฏูุจู ู
ูู ุนููุฏู ููููู
ุณุงูู ุนูุณุฌูุฏุง
31. He calls out, you appointed the ministry an assembly
Of the deaf who did not hear our voices echo
ูฃูก. ูููุงุฏููู ููููููุชู ุงูููุฒุงุฑูุฉู ูููุฆูุฉู

ูู ููู
ุชูุณู
ูุน ููุฃูุตูุงุชููุง ุตูุฏู
32. It does not have among its members in consultation
An eloquent man who utters or enforces a decree

ุฃูุจูููู ุฅูุฐุง ู
ุง ุฃูุตุฏูุฑู ุงูุฃูู

33. By your Lord, what distracted us and bent us
Away from propriety, if the path was paved
ูฃูฃ. ุจูุฑูุจูููู ู
ุงุฐุง ุตูุฏูููุง ูููููู ุจููุง
ุนููู ุงูููุตุฏู ุฅูู ูุงูู ุงูุณูุจููู ู
ูู

34. You presented an opinion in your book which was not
Upright, but it was an arrow aimed straight
ูฃูค. ุฃูุดูุฑุชู ุจูุฑูุฃูู ูู ููุชุงุจููู ููู

ุณูุฏูุฏุงู ููููููู ูุงูู ุณููู
ุงู ู
ูุณูุฏููุฏุง
35. And you tried to give the foreigner a status
That would bring upon us endless woe and humiliation
ูฃูฅ. ููุญุงูููุชู ุฅูุนุทุงุกู ุงูุบูุฑูุจู ู
ููุงููุฉู
ุชูุฌูุฑูู ุนูููููุง ุงูููููู ููุงูุฐูููู ุณูุฑู

36. Woe to Egypt on the day it suffers with yearning
In which that foreigner spends the night empowered
ูฃูฆ. ูููุง ููููู ู
ูุตุฑู ูููู
ู ุชูุดูู ุจูููุฏููุฉู
ููุจูุชู ุจููุง ุฐุงูู ุงูุบูุฑูุจู ู
ูุณููููุฏุง
37. Is it not enough that our lands were taken from us
While we had not yet reached the peak of awareness

ููููููุง ุฃูููุง ุณูููุจูุง ุถููุงุนููุง

ููู ุงูููุทููุฉู ุงูู

38. And every proficient practitioner crowded us out of livelihood
While we were ignorant and dormant

ุงุฑูุณู
ุฎูุจูุฑู ููููููุง ุฌุงูููููู ููุฑููููุฏุง
39. And what are the foreign corporations in every town
Except shares that enable the cunning to hunt

ุง ุงูุดูุฑููุงุชู ุงูุณูุฏู ูู ููููู ุจููุฏูุฉู
ุณููู ุดูุฑููู ููููู ุจููู ู
ูู ุชูุตููููุฏุง
40. This is people's discourse, and people are tongues
If this one spoke, that one refuted invigorated

ุฅูุฐุง ูุงูู ููุฐุง ุตุงุญู ุฐุงูู ู

41. If I were of the politicians among them
I would have recorded an opinion and conveyed a purpose

42. But I am disposed to poetry, a poet
Who adds to history immortal words

43. O venerable Elder, greetings
And O splendid palace, endure

44. If this lion is absent from you due to illness
His impact remains fixed in you eternally
