1. As if I see a bare blade flying
With sparks bursting from its sharp edges

2. A stealthy hand turns it before my eyes
Now pulsing, now still

3. It matches my blade in the sheen of its blade
With elegance and pride does it portray it

4. I see it, so my ferocity draws me to it
But it recoils, while in myself desire for it smolders

5. I lunge with my spear, hoping to seize it
But at my approach it takes flight

6. Am I seized by a jinn's touch or has delight
And intoxication overtaken my soul?

7. I see myself in a night of murky doubt
Would that I knew will daylight follow it?

8. I will kill my guest, cousin and master
Though for killers the aftermath is loss

9. I will sate my soul's desire though they say
Desire of the soul is base and treachery disgrace

10. O blade that flashed in the gloom
And stirred the demons within my soul

11. Did my eyes deceive me or was I seeing true
Is that blood or flames in your sheen?

12. Are you a specter of evil I intended
With that blood spilt on you a sign?

13. If you are not a delusion, be a blessed guide
For I am alone and sorrows abound

14. Be my guide in the dark and my leader
For my night is bestial and the road strewn

15. I am resolved upon murder, O thin sword
Though no vengeance lies between you and me

16. If love of power has blinded my sight
I have no choice but to accept this fate

17. Give me, O pitiless fate, a heart steadfast as yours
If only hard hearts could be borrowed!

18. O severed patience, O fleeing reason, do not slip away
Evil, I have no escape from your hands

Where the wild cats stray and lose their way

To whom jinn are kith and treachery kin

23. When the bestial night wraps the world in its shroud
It bares its fangs, ready to bite

24. Why am I like a noble killer, of honored stock
Yet their best in the dark are most vile

25. When the wolves of desolation howl, their pack
Rushes to evil, baring claw and fang
