1. My friend, if not for the love of Maysa I would not have excelled
So today I would have either met death or tomorrow
١. خليليّ لولا حبُّ ميسةَ لم أُبَل
فأفي اليوم لاقيت المنيّة أم غدا
2. My friend, if I confide my secret to you both
Do not make my secret scattered gossip
٢. خليليّ إن أفشيت سرّي إليكما
فلا تجعلا سرّي حديثاً مبدّدا
3. And if you both divulge it, may your eyes never see
Muhammad on Judgement Day
٣. وإن أنتُما أفشيتُماه فلا رأت
عيونُكما يوم الحساب محمّدا
4. And may you remain in misery all your lives
Tasting a bitter living most arduous
٤. ولا زلتُما في شقوَةٍ ما بقيتُما
تذوقان عيشاً سيء الحال أنكدا
