الله يجزي سعيد الخير نافلة

1. May God reward Sa'eed with goodness as a supererogatory act,
I mean Sa'eed ibn Qais, the brave man of Hamdan.

١. اللَه يجزي سعيد الخير نافلةً
أعني سعيد بن قيس قرم همدان

2. He saved me from a dark, dusty pitfall,
Were it not for his intercession, I would have been shrouded.

٢. أنقذني من شفا غبراء مظلمةٍ
لولا شفاعتُه ألبست أكفاني

3. Tameem ibn Murr said, "We will not speak to him,"
Yet Qais ibn Aylan refused that.

٣. قالت تميم بن مرٍّ لا نخاطبُه
وقد أبت ذلكم قيس بن عيلان

4. He cleared my throat of saliva that had been choking me
And God made my secret known after concealment.

٤. أساغ في الحلق ريقاً كان يجرضُني
واظهر اللَه سرّي بعد كتمان

5. His noble qualities came to my rescue,
His forefathers, when the best of Qahtan thrived,

٥. إني تداركني عفٌ شمائلهُ
آباؤُه حين ينمى خيرُ قحطان

6. Qais nurtured it, and Zayd, and the young man Karb,
And he of lofty mountains, of the sons of Uthman,

٦. ينميه قيسٌ وزيدٌ والفتى كرَبٌ
وذو جبائرَ من أولاد عثمان

7. And Thu Rayn, and Sayf, and the son of Thu Yazan,
And Alqamah before them - I mean the son of Nabhan.

٧. وذو رعين وسيف وابن ذي يزنٍ
وعلقم قبلهم أعني ابن نبهان
