1. I was delighted one morning at the riverbank
When the elders of Hamdan appeared, full of glory and goodness,

2. Led by a magnificent king whose talents are abundant,
The helper against adversity, renowned for his virtues,

3. I mean Sa'eed bin Qais, the best of the highborn,
His glory lofty with the Sultan, held in high esteem,

4. He does not relent when confronted with dishonor,
But meets it with anger and condemnation,

5. Dazzlingly fair, clouds are summoned by him,
His stance ever victorious though destiny frowns.
