1. O dawn's breeze, are you a troop cutting through the morning,
The day you were created was long,

2. Your dawn would not be harmed if it sparkled gently,
Perhaps eyes would doze a little.

3. You hurried the dreams of nightfall and folded them,
While the soul sips its sweetest lip.

4. It would not have been happier coloring its magic,
Depicting wishes and caressing it fondly.

5. And arousing in them the appetite for life,
Love is passionate and youth inclined.

6. The sun-like lips are pleased with love,
So they laugh whispering weakly.

7. We pity the chastity of dawn, for they have not seen
Any stumbling except they saw it banning.

8. It took away the freshness and youth from them,
And love, pleasure and the first torment.

9. Yes, even if joys revolved around the dawn,
Which joys would not revolve?

10. It pities the wounded heart so it yields,
Watered from its mercies untied.

11. And if the heat of the displaced is clouded,
It offers shade and shadow to the displaced one.

12. It turns the barren wilderness into vineyards,
Intoxicated and a laughing lively quarter.

13. So it is as if in its beautification of wishes
A palm tree trying to adorn its palms.

14. Indeed, He who created the truth speechless
Created the wishes for those who arrive all-encompassing.

15. The two conflict without either seeing
Victory to extend its rule and length.

16. Wishes invite the groups of hearts while its sister
Invites sights in tumult and minds.

17. The universe between the two afflictions divided,
So witness a tribe making lawful a tribe.

18. Excuse the hearts for tyranny, for long they were
Tied and their difficulties subjugated and humbled.

19. As for the night and dawn of its enemies
I became blind to it kneeling downcast.

20. Tell the truth that if you were harsh perhaps
Time will release your chained prisoner.

21. If you possess the world and secret of its treasures
You do not possess dreams and wishes.

22. The horizon of wishes is kinder, broader,
More compassionate and more adorned scenery.

23. Save me the treasures from the chaste, so you do not see
An eye to those treasures a path.

24. And choose them for the strong, easily,
And wealth and a sleepy, amused corner.

25. And if the chaste complains of your whip, then listen
To the melody of injustice scream and wail.

26. And pretend to the sleepers on the plateau
That God created wishes for bait.

27. Your generosity was not a guarantee of happiness
Honestly, and your stinginess of misery responsible.

28. This life feared your tyranny reverently,
So listen to its sobbing and neighing.

29. And roars that stood over its clouds
As evidence of your severe mighty rule.

30. Your hands ruled its air and seas,
And the whole universe its width and length.

31. Does knowledge alone unjustly rule,
No heart in its domain and inclinations?

32. And if knowledge ruled hearts name it
Savagery, and call civilization deceit.

33. And if knowledge ruled hearts make them
Rocks straining with its loaded burden.

34. There is no pulse with which it throbbed but
The sound of steel becoming the clinking of chains.

35. As for palms the best are those that
Destroyed the lute and composed music.

36. Knowledge harnessing them and knowledge suffices that
It weigh all matters and ration.

37. It pardoned the sanctity of imagination and sanctified it
Or do you not see the sanctity of imagination vanished?

38. And I have stood by it reciting to the absent
The lock of imagination, unable to unlock.

39. And I cried - may he be rewarded - and the tears
Lessened hardship or healed anguish.

40. My covenant with it and poetry in its cycles
Were the songs of our hearts and their echoes.

41. The scents of wishes float the melodies of life
In it the secrets at dawn and at night.

42. And it opened up to you the world however you desire,
Adorning your sense lost in imagination.

43. And it brought back time rolled up, and Adam
Yearning with his tears for Abel.

44. It gave immortality and no inclinations or passions,
So he refused and chose estrangement and travel.

45. A gazelle leaves whom it loves, and its secret is
It parted from glorification and exaltation.

46. The colors change submerging its soul
In beauty not little or heaped.

47. And the changing colors are a lasting blessing
He did not know change in his Paradise.

48. You see the palms bending with fruit
Yearning to embrace the lovely fronds.

49. So enjoy seeing two lovers meet
Dawn-like while the stars set.

50. And excuse the beautiful when his madness transgressed
Without poetry or wooing.

51. Infatuation makes him lean toward her without seeing
Sin, and sets her nakedness on fire with a kiss.

52. The handsome lip sips smoothly
And is delighted like sprigs at night.

53. Neglected and roses at the stream but did not fear
Their beauty the debauched poet.

54. Until when the cold hid and intoxicated them
She saw it from shyness great.

55. She turned reciting chastity to him and wore
Her cheek like the clear dawn's first downpour.

56. But he refused and rushed to her naked
Shy, for beauty loved the shy.

57. And you see him in his rags
Ravaged by the fangs of sickness, wasted.

58. The blessings of eyes abandoned him and ridiculed
That outcast genius.

59. So he fell dead in the sand, shrouded
In the pale tears of dawn, washed.

60. And a Qurayshi youth while he kills his eyesight
To see the Pleiades infatuated.

61. You toyed to witness from him any passion
To reward, and any burning love he took on.

62. And Sakinah, poetry is a guest of her ear
And beauty sends its longing so they speak.

63. The flirtations of the cupbearer are weary from the wine of love
Drunk, and modesty prevents her from leaning.

64. Eyes full of our charms but
Hearts full of the most precious gazelle.

65. Chastity stands guarding against that forbidden desire
Unless wishes fierce and stingy.

66. And it spreads its zeal aroma which sometimes
Takes the sacred fragrance from Gabriel.

67. And Abu Nuwas in his amusement gatherings
Passed the nights drunk and lost.

68. Sweet jesting, passionate, and he justified
His sin to sinners, excellently justified.

69. Life in frivolity and flutter is enough
And the eternal of life extra.

70. He did not esteem the inviolability of beauty in its protection
And loved it when cheapened, disgraced.

71. From every averse, if you bring her close
You will make a necklace of her undone knot.

72. She refuses so boredom turns him away, and if she yields,
He would become bored if owned.

73. And you see Ibn Burd in his amusements
A lion society has isolated.

74. Exposing indecencies after modesty and integrity
To the rulers his eloquent tongue.

75. So they accused him of heresy, then they felt
Among his enviers a witness accepted.

76. Until when the witnesses were hard to find, they pretended
So they saw witnesses in the poem upright.

77. The passions of politics claimed him an infidel
God forbid, he did not go to his death a sinner.

78. Neighbors, you see with each sweetheart
At the stream, a lover and his lover.

79. Gathered drinking smoothly, they recited
The precious ancestors and chanted the Revelation.

80. Quenching imaginations’ blessings but my eyes
Did not see a quarter of its realization.

81. I sinned by its adornment, civilization required
The worst bargaining, its debt deferred.

82. Ugly dreaming of beauty but only sees
Sorrow, loss, and misery.

83. And its discourse counts clutter as harmony
And love a science it claims to detail.

84. So if you want love, seek its matters
In scripture, and beware misinterpretation.

85. And learn the burnings from its pages
And the tear, how to train it to flow.

86. And pretend to reproach the stars and blame them
Pained, intentionally prolonged.

87. For it is tactful in your book that you see
Among the stars for your love, chaste.

88. Sanctity of imagination ransomed your sight, civilization,
You imagined yourself to miss depicting.

89. Alas your beauty from deceptive beauty
Deceived eyes and perfected delusion.

90. I do glimpse in the unseen a message
And see behind the unseen from you a messenger.

91. And a book of truth not caring for desire
If it opposes reason and narrations.

92. Jesus’ Bible in tenderness, and if it be
Otherwise it contradicts the Bible.

93. And Ahmad’s elucidation: strength and delicateness
And forbidding and view in life beautiful.

94. It pardoned the civilization of vulgarity
Leaving its clamor busy.

95. Tyrannical, no gentleness in its fore-ordinations
Hastily, and time was not created hasteful.

96. Right promises you provisions while its sister
Begets misery and creates torment.

97. It builds and destroys like life, and sometimes
It spins to break its spun thread.

98. No gentleness throbs in breasts, no passion
Your eyes lied to you but saw specters.

99. And the knowledge - woe to knowledge the day of its reckoning
If it were asked about its whims.

100. This is the book of the unseen within which is mercy
Encompassing the land, dignified and provider.

101. It washed existence from resentments and passions
For God's spirit to reside in it settled.

102. And it reconciled lineages, its kindness overflowing
Including in it branches honest and roots.

103. Its simplicity equalized peoples, so you do not see
Among them the crossbred or count the purebred.

104. And it pitied the sinner soul so it saw
The sin of souls over souls foreign.

105. It was born by the fancies of laws an idea
So it grew in the bosoms of civilization a ghoul.

106. It created for it names while it is metaphor
And imagined its forms imagining.

107. And it threw humankind into its blessings
So it hunted it shackled handcuffed.

108. It was not pleased with the torment of life so it employed
After perdition, for its unknown punishment.

109. So it is as if those laws require
Among souls resentment and grudges.
