1. The thunder rebuked the burdened clouds
And drove them with the darkness of night

And shone upon the gardens of evil

4. Fountain of knowledge, courtyard of virtue, refuge
Of the noble prophets, abode of peace

5. Mine of generosity, gathering of manners and courtesy
And companionship, polishing of minds

6. Rising of beauty, rather dwellings of the beloved
Rather theaters of tranquility

7. Then I was greeted by faces that illuminate the night
From a group honorable to me

8. Faces dripping cheerfulness from them
In the course of talk and smiles

9. Modesty keeps inflaming them until
You see them blushed like pomegranates

10. I tend their pact, I yearn for the goodness
Of their nearness, I am a protector

11. If I were given a cup of wine, it would not
Quench my fervor and aspirations

12. It was not my choice to part from them, but the decree
Of fate, and fate is the most unjust judge

13. The vicissitudes of fate wronged me when
They made me a prey for arrows

14. The departure of the noble is disgrace upon countries
Rather, a blemish upon the days

15. And I am, among them, a brother who fell short
Of grasping the virtues of their worth in my imaginations

16. Except I see him as more gentle to me
Than the spirit's range in bodies

17. Whenever the doves cooed at dawn
Their mention gave me a cup of fervor

18. Oh my life, I see you disgraced with separation
And distance, so depart in peace
