1. Slowly! For hardship ease will come
As night demands the dawn will bloom

2. With hopeful sight of victory near
The Umayyad mosque relief will cheer

3. Its state did lately much complain
To watching eyes its need was plain

4. When sixteen hundred fifty-one
In order passed and were gone

5. Al-Farid's aid let praise unlock
In God's conquest joy we flock

6. Succor from God came as a boon
Like rain that smites the dunes at noon

7. The winds' tails then did slash and sting
Nearly raising up a bitter thing

8. No mat he had, though it's agreed
To spread a mat is right indeed

9. For service done, reward is due
Scant covering, despite what's true

10. Were windows, beauteous to behold
Delighting sight with beams of gold

11. Now strewed in pieces, shunned apart
No joinings there, nor doubled part

12. His service's due he did maintain
Pleasing the worshipped lord again

13. Each lesson he renewed with care
To spread religion's light and share

14. Rites restored, their beauty anew
Returned as simply duty's due

15. A man of resolve, with one word spoken
Puts to rout all dissent unbroken

16. When perils loom, confusions rise
His view reveals where safety lies

17. How many crises, hard to cure
In Damascus, by him found their lure

18. With purpose upright, not crooked, bent
And resolve no flaws did ever dent

19. God grant him glory's might and main
Who made the glories that remain

20. His nature glory-bound is seen
Blended with glory's righteous mien

21. Virtues pure, so if he's assailed
His calm to raging seas has failed

22. As sheep would dare attack a lion
Asleep and rouse that fearsome scion

23. His name wide meadows still has kept
Whose squares refuse all shabby steps

24. His tireless efforts for the best
Crown high ambition's noble crest
