1. The nights do not cease passing, making us laugh
With wonders and mysteries or making us weep.

2. Just as the days bring about changes beyond expectations—
O son of Zubayr, take us away from this life and console us!

3. We used to visit Ibn ‘Abbas and he would enlighten us
With knowledge, reward us, and guide us.

4. And ‘Ubayd Allah's generosity never ceases—
His hands feeding guests and the poor.

5. Righteousness, religion and worldly things are in their homes.
We obtain from them what we desire when we frequent them.

6. The Prophet is the light by which the darknesses
Of our past and future were dispelled.

7. His tribe is our protection in religion. They have
Merit over us and rights incumbent upon us.

8. And you know, O son of Zubayr, none are closer to them in ties
Of kinship nor precedent in religion than us.

9. So why do you prevent them from us and prevent us from them?
Why do you hurt them regarding us and hurt us?

10. God will not grant victory or empowerment in the land
To one who disgraces them out of hatred in religion.
