1. They say to me, why don't you get up to the heights?
Is not the life of the patient contented man sweet?

3. For in it, from the notables whose palm overflows

4. And in it judges, from whom is not hidden
The essence of knowledge, never to be lost

5. And in it the elders of religion, merit and refuge
To whom every finger points to the heights

6. And in it, and in it while humiliation is disgrace
So get up, hasten and seek your livelihood's door and knock

7. So I said yes I will hasten if I want to see
Myself disgraced, degraded, underestimated in my station

8. And I will hasten if staying in my stance for long
At the door of the inaccessible, forbidden one pleases me

9. And I will hasten if hypocrisy is my way
I go and return in robes of pretense

10. And I will hasten if no remnant remains in me
With which I heed the right of piety and restraint

11. For between the open-chested how many gatherings
In which the fire of rancor burns within my ribs

12. And between the learned and their folk
When they examine problems in council

13. A discussion that protects souls, ending
As they embarked in it to the start of ruin

14. To ignorant insolence in guise of its people
Or silence about truth then lost

15. Either you take the path of religion and prohibition
Or you swallow the lump of the embittered
