1. I left Ibn Khawla not out of boredom
And I am to him like a towering palm tree

2. And I am still his protector when absent
I owe what he owes to the Truthful

3. He is the ink of the Hashemites
And a light from the Giving King

4. Through him Allah enlivens all people
And makes eloquence flow from the speaker

5. His proof came to me openly
So I came near and was not like one who leaves

6. Like one who, after the clarity of guidance
Turns to nonsense and stupidity
