1. Struck with grief, sorrow and hope from Mudar lineage,
And settled near Zawra’a with affliction and mourning,

2. He discarded the liver of guidance and discarded righteousness,
And brought upon Karkh a misfortune that extended,

3. Upon the valley of Gharra, sorrow that sprawled,
He raised over Iraq dust of grief,

4. That made the face of day see it as gloom,
Time played tricks taking all as captives,

5. Who knows who it took with its mischief?
It struck Al-Hasan Al-Muftada in Sarraf,

6. And scattered upon the Alid family ashes,
A leader mighty in religion, missed,

7. And momentous an affliction of one mighty missed,
He twisted a strong palm frond bent,

8. So the wrist failed and the kindling went out,
And it shattered the glory of its Hashimite people,

9. Helpless, the Alids wore black in mourning,
His elegizer announced him, stealing endurance,

10. And instilled agony, banishing any rest,
Yes, had the elegizer known whom he elegized,

11. Elegizing favor and gained knowledge,
A fortified and fertile stronghold,

12. A verdant spring, he elegized honor itself,
The uncle of its obtainer was lost, so it spread,

13. The abodes and countries were in grief laden,
Oh you of refined manners, days and fate,

14. Have not erred in choosing him as their critique,
Why did the nights not grant him their turn,

15. When he was for their turns the pillar?
They took his lead, and for so long,

16. From their crises, he took the lead,
And were it not for my solace in my eminent brother,

17. The pillars of dew and pride would have collapsed,
Through Ibrahim, lofty in his transcendence,

18. Beyond its height, the ferocious lions,
I would not have ventured a path for solace,

19. Nor imagined for glory any limits,
A youth in his traits you find intellect,

20. Brilliance or clarity or wisdom,
If it grew, nothing would be above his distinction,

21. And whatever he said, nothing beyond propriety,
He led the world in merits and forbearance,

22. Thus, those who obey Allah are led,
Oh son of the two most benevolent, sublime and proud,

23. More radiant than one who benefits, radiates and is generous,
If the world calls for knowledge to rise,

24. You and the light of your dignity are called,
I convey condolences to you, and for me is an affliction,

25. They gifted us with loss of their guiding minarets,
Through children who rose in merits and kinship,

26. With them we attacked when time opposed,
With Abbas the lofty in the open desert,

27. The best and tallest of them in glory,
He sought the heights as a child and galloped,

28. In the field of pride, his steeds dashed,
And Ja’far who has an evident nobility,

29. So he shone in rivalry when adept,
And Musa who the glories,

30. In his youth, foretold of virtues and righteousness,
Your like cannot be encompassed by any herder,

31. Even if the seas were his inkwell,
By my life, I am the one consoled,

32. With an affliction that singled me out and burned,
It took my mind and was a habit for it,

33. Of old, the precedence and generous horse,
So the fragrance of heavens scent his grave,

34. Named as the son of the Prophet, sublime and departed,
