1. They are passionate for depriving me of union with them,
So much so that I fell in love with their voice and deprivation.

2. I cannot attain union with them even if I pursue them,
How can patience bear such agony?

3. O fate, do you have any good news about our loved ones?
Have they headed east or wandered west as strangers?

4. Abodes were deserted when they intended to depart,
And they replaced intimates there with homelands.

5. I held back my tears during the nights, but alas,
Hold back from asking where the caravan has appeared.

6. If they promised and kept it, or connected and parted,
Or reconciled and lit a fire in the breasts,

7. I found their riding camels in their journey, so our hearts
Pursued them two by two and alone.

8. If the law of nature was lenient after they left, it’s no wonder,
Such is the decree of nature for those it has estranged.

9. Or if the eyelid wept among familiar friends,
Then the heart has proven its right over it.

10. Our days and the abode of gathering belong to God,
A companion in passion - lovely maidens and lads.

11. Her saliva circulates upon us a melody,
And from her sweet-scented saliva, melodies.

12. I spent the night quenching passion with the wine of her saliva,
While she spent it rebuking my ears with blame.

13. So I said: good tidings to us, for surely
The quarters of a trustworthy lord are our refuge.

14. The enemy meets a radiant face from Him,
Like delegations meeting a gentle-faced man.

15. He has attained grace, everlasting glory and loftiness,
Surpassing his contemporaries and peers in glory.

16. Attributes of intelligence, noble rank and authority
That enviers cannot conceal.

17. My Master set up the pillars of religion, and its realms
Rejoiced through him - Najd and Iran.

18. My Master, His might and abundant support are such
That fate casts its thrones to Him.

19. The prideful soul is reassured through Him, and
The enemies walk humble and lowly in His field.

20. O you adorned with the beauty of the time, and who
Became the human eye of glory for mankind.

21. You continue unchanging, though the lofty occasionally don,
And none is spiteful save those deprived of God's mercy.
