1. Stand firm in virtue, or else go back,
Reproach me not, for who will hear?

2. How can it be, when times like these
Bring loss, with no return?

3. A quarter's grace its ways forgot,
I watered life, O neglectful one.

4. The floods control it as they please,
Submissive to their power.

5. I ask where are the dear ones,
I knew them once, when did they leave?

6. Ahmed left, so I wept for him,
Landmarks faded, with no reprieve.

7. God's will, affairs declined, though he
Rose high as sunrise, prominently.

8. My speech is heard by night's reviver,
In supplication raised piously.

9. Succor of afflicted, aid of troubled souls,
Refuge of people when afraid.

10. Exalter of glory, protector of kinship,
If people forget or disobey.

11. Despite the heights, they laid you down,
Woe to them that made you lay.

12. Your death was mourned by the pious,
Who else would the righteous mourn?

13. A coffin carried, leaves fluttering,
Dew drops following forlorn.

14. Gently, O coffin, with your escort,
Nobility and honor in you rest.

15. Condolences, O restrainer of rage,
Your place above glory's crest.

16. O benefactor, your nature like musk,
Far nobler than ambergris.

17. All sons of women, though eminent,
Listen and obey what harm brings.

18. For death takes all births,
As harvest all sown things.

19. Immortal were neither Kisra nor
Sabur or Tubba as time swings.

20. Still you hold the reins of virtues,
Submitted to you without fight.

21. Still you remain within consent’s shade,
A refuge for people upright.

22. Learned but for your knowledge enriched,
Look, he rests in meadows bright.

23. In a grave Ahmad made,
With clouds of pardon alight.
