1. Today the glimpse of the hidden secret shone openly
And the whiff of hidden righteousness was lost

2. Today the cover was lifted and what had been most hidden
Appeared to the eyes

3. Today God appeared to His servant
To accept His baptism and did not refuse

4. Today the waters were sanctified and blessed
And their sickness over time was healed

5. Today the voice of the Father proclaims that this
Is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased

6. And the Spirit descended on Him alighting as
A white, fluttering dove

7. After thirty years passed
In obedience to parents, Mary and Joseph

8. He came to the Jordan seeking baptism
From that servant of His who was chosen

9. And flowed among the sinners like a sinner
Preparing for repentance he had not yet made

10. Christ took off His cloak at the bank
Seeking baptism like well-adorned troops

11. Ever since John the prophet secretly recognized Him
Like one who had not been recognized

12. He proclaimed with a wave of his fingers announcing
To a people with deaf hearts

13. This is the precious Lamb who lifts
All burdens and absolves from them

14. This is the one I meant who comes after me
Yet He was before me while still in the hidden

15. I am not worthy to loosen the strap
Of His sandal, indeed it is an honor for me

16. I baptize you with purifying water
To prepare you for a most honorable state

17. It is the baptism of the only Son in His
Holy Spirit and unquenchable fire

18. My God, why is a hand reaching down from me
Above Your revered, awe-inspiring head?

19. As I purify the spring of sincerity
And baptize with most dependable purity

20. I am in such need before You while You
Come to me with all humility and gentleness

21. So He answered him “give up all reluctance
And do not refuse what you have made people accustomed to

22. We must complete all righteousness that people emulate and pursue”
The waters of the sea stood still when they saw

23. Among the people its Originator in that position
They turned back on themselves and held together

24. From flowing on, and it is wondrous for them to turn away
So the water in the Jordan fled

25. From the awesomeness of His glory and did not hesitate
The extension of the water ebbed in waves of awe

26. And its stirring was told by stillness to stop
The stream of Elijah ceased its flow

27. As did the Jordan when it was redirected
Or is this the son of Nun crossing the Jordan

28. With the Ark while the waters had stopped?
Or is this Elisha the prophet whose affair

29. Was to heal waters from destructive corruption?
God appeared so every valley fills

30. And newly sprouting groves bow down
God appeared so O covering stars

31. Flee from the awesomeness of His glory, and O sun hide!
God appeared so O spacious earth, tremble

32. And split apart O heavens, and shake!
From Bethlehem shone a full moon

33. To give light while its light has not waned
From a feeding trough that used to shelter His sun

34. O sun of Holiness whose light was never eclipsed!
O land of Zebulon, my secret so exult and rejoice!

35. O land of Naphtali call out and cheer!
Wilderness of Jordan giving water so blossom

36. And with the herald’s call to glad tidings turn green!
His awesomeness made the twisting dragons sneeze

37. That expelled the remotest of the remote
Evil things in their lairs were condemned

38. Punished with clattering chains of the glorious
Let the trees of the thickets rejoice when dew

39. Satisfies the echo and soaks all dried out
And your meadows sing praising the lilies

40. Glorifying every heart complaining of being spurned
Your fragrant flowers spread their scent

41. And the myrtle wanders like a fleeing gazelle
For in your plains an Ancient Lord

42. Without beginning has begun anew
Coming to bury the sin of Adam, fulfilling

43. The most faithful promise that was not broken
O offspring of the ancient lineage, stop your weeping!

44. Cease your lugubrious wailing and long faces!
Salvation has come to us removing its harm

45. Dispelling evil and necessity of dispelling what must be dispelled
He ransomed, guided, then healed a nation

46. Who without Him would not have been ransomed, guided, or healed
He is the Redeemer, the Teacher, and the Healer

47. Three we suffice with and are content
He whom I disobeyed the order of my early passion for

48. His sake I obeyed the warning of my chastity
I made the fetters of endless lust into

49. My love of Him and found its trials sweet
O You whom we gained through the guidance of righteousness

50. For You attained it with unmatched humility
You made known what had been immersed in oblivion

51. To people unacknowledged and unrecognized
You cultivated people’s character with the Cultivator of Righteousness

52. Who surpasses every cultivator
You cut down the towering haughtiness

53. Lowering with the sword of just retribution sharpened
And You brought us near to Eden from which

54. Justly, Adam was exiled from long ago
Clothing us with the garment of innocence right away

55. Since delay did not agree with us
You bonded us to You when You stripped falsehood

56. Establishing by such stripping the best composition
You compassionately mended cracks in our hearts

57. With care and affection more kind than any
You erased the shadows of misguidance with guidance

58. And mended what without Your mending would not be mended!
So to You belongs praise as long as those who praise

59. From every praiser rise, even those who do not praise You
To You belongs prostration with eternal blessing

60. Without stop, without saying “enough!”
