1. If only the rock could feel our affliction and comprehend
It would surely weep in sorrow and lament in grief

2. Or if the one who caused us such harm was touched
It would wither, crumble, and rupture into pieces

3. We were devastated by the loss of one whose consolation was sought
And none among the people felt a loss like ours

4. O lonesomeness of the living for one deceased
Who just yesterday was alive, giving life to those who sought him

5. Alas for Abu Shawareb, slain, his pillars overturned
And the people likewise felled, overcome by anguish

6. Your lofty throne will no longer be surrounded by cavalry
As your coffin is now raised upon shoulders

7. It is fitting for the eye to shed bloody tears
Having seen you lying still, your eyelids closed

8. I mourn you - or rather - I weep for you, wherever marks
Of your overflowing virtues shone bright

9. Is there one who can console or be consoled
For the loss of Moses who brought solace to the distressed?

10. You are indeed Moses - my heart is the Moses - thus
I have been anguished since you departed, my heart in pain

11. You are Moses - why do you not speak to us?
Why do you not answer those calling to you, listening?

12. You are Moses - separation is not your custom
It was inevitable our limbs be severed into pieces

13. He who completed good deeds in his life
While well versed in piety and virtuous deeds

14. Thanks be to God, for He gave him a successor
Whose deeds will remain fresh, never to wilt

15. Two noble sons, like two brilliant stars
Or two fishes swimming the horizon together

16. I saw what prior nations denied about him
And disavowed his good works though they heard

17. Within his realm, the corners of four monasteries
Whose bells resonated at dusk were erected

18. He excelled in prayers within them, thus he attained
The reward of prayer and the best supplication

19. This is what he attained and forever owns
All he planted and cultivated fruits to reap

20. This is he who regarded the lowly world with neither
His right or left hand, never to be fooled

21. Faith and worldly joys he contained with proper
Deeds and nature - how excellent when combined!

22. Of pure lineage, noble stock, overflowing
With generosity and kindness like two springs

23. Open-handed, never to withhold, free-spirited
Never sullying a radiant face nor blemished

24. Were it not for accepting God's decree, I would be
Inconsolable though feigning composure

25. Death is a divine law that will never unravel
From God - what law has ever been undone?

26. Not even Mary the Virgin nor Jesus were spared
Rather they submitted to His ordained decree

27. He led mankind in justice like his Father
And established and necessitated the impossible

28. This is the path all children of women must take
No man has ever turned back from it

29. So none can blame death for taking any soul
Nor call fate a liar for whoever it seizes

30. The shrouds erased all distinction through universality
Once inequality ended when enshrouded equally

31. No king or slave can now be recognized
No lofty or lowly, all are now equitable

32. Where are those who reaped the harvest of sin
Not caring for lawful gains, greed ever growing?

33. Come, let us go to the burrows where they are
Worms feasting without distinction on their bodies

34. You see beasts grazing them as pasture
Each body feeding them according to what it fed

35. When I saw all mankind were but
Pasture for the worms to graze what they grazed

36. I wondered was this Lazarus? Or was it
That wealthy man who lived in luxury?

37. Where are those foregone who hoarded wealth and were miserly?
Death dispersed all their wealth and what they gathered

38. Plundered is what they gathered, futile what they built
God will question each what they did

39. Justice will uncover every deception and all
That the deceivers weighted and calculated

40. Blessed are those who shunned the world, detached
From sin, drawing to the bow of piety fully taut

41. Who pondered the meaning of consequences
And acted in goodness to the extent they could

42. Who made death the object of their vision
Fleeing from it until its thoughts receded

43. Who counseled sincerely, for it is a refuge
To salvation - the best counsel, most beneficial
