1. I have seen the lands of the East in every state
Afflicted with woes overflowing their full measure
١. رأَيتُ بِلادَ الشرقِ في كل حالةٍ
بلاءً وشَرّاً فاضَ مِكيالُهُ الوافي
2. Consider then beyond all norms, and say:
Lands without guidance, an East without dawn.
٢. فرَخّم على غيرِ القياسِ وقُل إِذاً
بِلادٌ بلا دالٍ وشرقٌ بلا قافِ
