1. I sacrifice myself, while my sights are dimming and seeing,
And my thoughts spend the night sculpting and breaking.

2. Rather, I begin a phase and end another,
And I put forth resolutions, then delay them.

3. And I decide to advance, then recede hesitantly,
Disappearing from sights then reappearing.

4. My resolve has ended, and it commands me,
So I saw what was inevitable in its command.

5. In praising one whose praises I mounted
Atop the heights of glory—who would regret that?

6. Who could I be to count the feats of one who became
Endowed with boundless virtues that can’t be limited?

7. If I enumerated his traits fully,
They would abound, surpassing even more.

8. If it’s said "What's this that the tongue falters at
In praising him, and eloquence falls short?"

9. Who is he, without whose generosity life would not shine?
Whose benevolence could not be requited?

10. Who is he, that sovereignty without his supremacy,
And the corona, all glory would be rejected?

11. A fulfiller would reply—he is the protector Al-Haamid,
Lord of the glories and remarkable triumphs, Al-Haydar.

12. Al-Luwaidhi, the most brilliant, the most fragrant,
Al-Mawlawi, the greatest of the Suudud.

13. If the orators fell silent from mentioning his name
And the loftiness of his Suudud, even the pulpit would speak of him.

14. Who attained the pinnacle of glory in his domain?
He surpassed, while all others fell short of his extent.

15. He submitted the source of goodness unconditionally, and his equal:
That which he dispensed was not withheld or prevented.

16. His deeds were safe from any defect—
verily, the doer becomes like the source.

17. He attained a glory that can’t be measured by its sublimity—
Kisra, or Anushirvan, then Caesar.

18. He surpassed all humanity in nobility—neither Alexander,
Nor al-Mundhir, Tubba’, or Khimyar.

19. Whoever faced adversity turned to him for relief
In his gift, praising and thanking him.

20. His family was brought ease by his gentle disposition
In which no hardship could be difficult.

21. They encountered leniency and amiability whenever
They met him, whether he was fasting or breaking fast.

22. His hands make the clouds rain, and without
His palms, the clouds are pouring rain.

23. In my pride of forbearance, I am like Haatim,
And in my protectiveness, like ‘Antar in courage.

24. The eyes of the comets squinted from his meteors,
For they had always found them abundant.

25. He led necks that had been refractory, now docile,
And felt comfort when they had once shied away.

26. Yet with all this he remains humble,
By God, neither pretentious nor arrogant.

27. The sparks of his wisdom shone, inevitably,
For you are the shining star.

28. Your memory’s fragrance has spread in homes—
When I remember you, ambergris smelled before musk.

29. You made the waters flow like your hands in generosity
Until the rivers complained of being depleted.

30. If the lofty stars could do as you did for them,
The seas would be exhausted and eliminated.

31. You made them flow with skill and expertise,
Cascading from the heavens, splintering.

32. Bringing life to meadows with the twitter of songbirds
Watering gardens that dazzle the eyes.

33. Your deeds relate about their blossoms, and their scent
Relays news of your affection and informs.

34. If the Magi had witnessed your rising, they would have
Worshipped the Lord of Beauty, glorified and pronounced his greatness.

35. Rather, if those who once worshipped idols saw you now,
They would say “God is the greatest, my Lord.”

36. For you are the sun shining on all creation,
And your children are flowers blooming in your towering height.

37. You have attained the pinnacle with precedence, so do not
Bend your necks, nor stumble.

38. Each of you is like ‘Antar,
And your horses are nothing but Duldul.

39. How much tenacity you horsemen have, derived from warriors
Who left no bone unbroken in the battlefield!

40. And so too Ahmad, whose pride deserves
Praise that would boast of his sublimity and glory.

41. Along with venerating the noble age of the Prophet, and the one whose
Opinion the desolate deserts are populated by.

42. Without Jonah there is no intimate comforter,
And without Ali, no exalted one is mentioned.

43. I hope for generosity, and it is guaranteed,
And I aspire to victory with al-Mansour.

44. I have a pact with you, so preserve
My pact, for you are the best protectors.

45. When I felt you, I became a poet—
Without you all, I cannot feel poetry.

46. O you whose aid in this world remains
As if they are your limbs and you are the essence.

47. I gift to you an untamed gift, the dearest thing purchased,
And I hoped that in your acceptance, I would succeed.

48. I broke it in with my brooding—and yet
My highest hopes are in your acceptance to tame it.

49. So receive it chaste, like the daughter of Luwayla,
Unveiled by the dawn of your praise.

50. She came to you, so here she is, from Aleppo—
Gentle by nature, which cannot be denied.

51. Accept graciously, live well, esteem greatly, possess, attain, and win—
As days passed and ages rolled.
