1. O wise one, asceticism is not in wearing wool
Nor in dwelling alone upon the dunes.

2. Rather, asceticism is in rejecting the world and all
Self-pride - so listen sincerely to this counsel:

3. Then, asceticism is in cutting off vain desire
Not by secluding yourself however long the seclusion.

4. Indeed, he who attains a heart made pure
Will perceive with reason what was obscured.
