1. O monk, do not ever despair
Nor be distressed and brokenhearted

2. By the scattering of thoughts
In times of pleading and humility

3. For God knows nature
And natural weakness

4. Thus the mind gained weakness when
It leaned towards vile morals

5. A weakness that controlled a strength
That saw the obeyed as the obedient

6. It used to be free before
From the authority of the dreadful captivity

7. But was willingly captured by Babylon's lust
And failed to return

8. Naked of knowledge, it was banished
From the progeny of brilliant knowledge

9. It thus dismissed
The gown of innocence like the disgraceful

10. It flows in the gown of confusion
Perplexed like the paralyzed

11. So my brother, reject cowardice
Which is to submit to Iblis' submission

12. And stand to fight him
Pleading to the All-Hearing

13. And seek battle for it
Is the trait of the courageous and valiant

14. Be patient and do not return
Until you see the fire of devotion

15. Settling in your heart and ending
As well as the deceptions of tears

16. Know that when you embark
On wakefulness at the time of devotion

17. You will be fought therein quickly
By the incidents of sudden rage

18. And take with you three
If you are obedient my intimate

19. They are the weapons of the Trinity of
Benevolence, glorious exaltation

20. Insight, gratitude and truthful
Prayer from an aching heart

21. And judge them with three
If you wish, universally judging:

22. Enumerating them now: piety
And vigilance with tenacious devotion

23. And couple them with a night vigil that illuminates
The mind with pure musk and pain

24. And follow a narrow path
Not the path of the spacious bowels

25. And rise with serious diligence for pleading
Taking care not to slip

26. With humility through which the lowly
Rises to the highest peak

27. They sought but there was no answerer
To their request or hearing

28. So the explanation is that they
Sought with arrogance and capability

29. Then mourn if you cannot
Make the eyelids shed tears

30. With the flames kindling
In the ribs if the tears are restrained

31. And if the heart's tears pour
Then the eyelids pour with droplets

32. O long-pouring heart that exceeded
Its measure and the eyelids rained

33. Be keen on regret
Not wickedness and vileness

34. And reject any passion and be
Among people like a gentle infant

35. Disclaiming any repulsiveness in you
Like a gentle fetus

36. And be humble without pretending
Out of conceit in words of humility

37. For children's coquetry is sometimes
What drew Jesus' pleasure

38. He whom endurance in perseverance
Weakened with kneeling and bowing

39. In the richness of a prayer He held
On the night of painful crucifixion

40. He created salvation for us, Glory to God
For this work

41. He came down to us
From His exalted rising throne

42. A wondrous matter from the All-Wondrous
Every existence being wondrous

43. A Lord who came humbled
Nay, He humbled the bent stature

44. Incarnated, hesitating
Among creatures and crowds

45. O God, how the Most High robed Himself
In this lowly body

46. My Master, I came to You fallen
So take me by the forelock of falling

47. And I came knocking Your door
For none but You is the Knocker

48. So delight with Your pardon a sinner
Who shed tears in torrents

49. I abandoned my peers
For Your company then built away from pasture

50. And connected my hopeful rope in You
So never be my Severer

51. By the intercession of the Virgin
Who is for all people the best intercessor

52. If her dawn shines, will it
Gleam with lanterns and candles?

53. Nay, her light is more splendid and gladdens
Than the shining light of dawn

54. O scion of the root of purity
What great roots and offshoots!

55. This is the staff of triumph that
Vanquishes swords and armors

56. Who can broadcast her sublime grace
To the understanding of the broadcaster?

57. Will a rising star in its orbit
Realize the plight of the fallen?

58. Please show me kindness so Your path
Will never dry of flowing

59. There is no obstacle in leaning
Towards me, do You have any prevention?

60. You are safety for one afraid
In the position of dreadful justice

61. I wasted my life in depravities
And negligent amusement

62. Can the years of time passed
In old age return in withdrawal?

63. So how many nights did I spend
While immorality was their mate

64. And I planted the thorns of sorrow
So I harvested despair from my crops

65. I sold the priceless for the least prices, woe
To the loser of the sold!

66. And I drowned in the sea of ignorance
When the winds of my action raged

67. What is the state of a ship wrecked
By the winds while without sail or oar?

68. Thus, O safe harbor
I build from a pained heart

69. O heart I plead to her and always trust
And never be brokenhearted
