1. The Jews long for the Messiah to come and he
Came, his proofs shone clearly

2. When the scepter of kingdom was snatched from them
And their thrones were no more

3. The weeks of Daniel the prophet passed
Is there one who denies his words while the truth bears witness?

4. Ruin wrecked the House of God, its firm bastions collapsed
And its pillars crumbled

5. Titus the king spread his wings over them
By the decree of the Master, his arms prevailed

6. He did not wish that but their schemes against him
Incited him to retaliate

7. This was the fourth captivity, God said about it
If I restore what was before, I will not repeat it

8. After this, they had no more burnt offerings for Him
Nor incense and priesthood to offer it

9. No more sacrifices to atone for their sins
After their sanctity had fulfilled its purpose

10. Their offering vanished from the world, and perished
Was Aaron’s priesthood, its necklaces untied

11. God uprooted the root He had planted
And swept it away when His purpose was complete

12. It was the law of Moses, its branches withered
Its springs dried up and its foundations collapsed

13. They became sects, each seen as a sect
Seeking a path through what it endures

14. You see it trembling in fear, hunted down
Worried and with none to chase it

15. It cowers though before lions and its cubs
Would make it tremble in dread

16. Disfigured faces, no handsome youth remains
Where is beauty, when God's curse lies dormant?

17. Awaken! Your glory days have passed
Gone is your pride, your creeds dissolved

18. Have you any haven left or support?
Your law’s might has crumbled, its pillars fallen

19. Have you any mosque held sacred for your worship
Where your sanctuary fell, its mosques ruined?

20. Who will mourn for you, with no mourners fit
To meet their dirges in poems composed?

21. Except Jeremiah’s elegies that spoke true of you
Why don’t their laments address you?

22. Enough disgrace for you wandering in darkness
On this path where the traveler strays

23. This is the daybreak of guidance shining clear
Walk, lest night falls and slumber takes you

24. O people of Moses, of whom only remains
The thunder of his hand, when his glories receded

25. You worshipped the calf until your wisest said
“This is your god whose worship leads not astray”

26. You rejected among you the stream of God
So for your gashing, its bandages avail naught

27. You sought other than Him, the worst pursued
While He is the Merciful, whose seeker never fails

28. He gave you Manna and Quails without toil
Thus the rock gushed for you, its springs overflowed

29. You killed the God of the Throne when He came
Seeking intimacy at the promised time

30. You lifted Him on wood, so His enemies rejoiced
And His enviers tasted pleasure in Him

31. Your fathers murdered the prophets—no wonder
The son journeys as his father has gone before
