1. Whether an event concerns or affects us,
Or a catastrophe ascends or descends,

2. And a crisis extends its claws,
And an ordeal schemes or draws near,

3. And an affliction unveils its pain so that
Its downcast robe cannot be removed from us,

4. And a calamity has suddenly overtaken,
For which the reproached almost swooned,

5. And an illness has sickened a heart but
It found no cure for its stubborn malady,

6. Seek refuge in the Chaste One, asylum of mankind,
For she is the wish, safety, and shelter,

7. And head for her protection if you are afraid,
For she is the refuge, shelter, and stronghold,

8. Do not fear any hardship when you come to her,
For with her every sorrow is made easy,

9. Those whom she has granted wellbeing, for they
Attained through her more than they had hoped for,

10. If the matter becomes difficult, turn to her healing knowledge,
For through it how many problems have been solved,

11. How many tearful mourners have come to her
And left joyfully fluttering with delight,

12. God has made her the judge of His signs,
So all that is divided or sent is from her command,

13. Without her permission and order nothing happens
Nor anything without her reaches fulfillment,

14. Mistress of the two worlds, her command
Is final with no refutation or refusal,

15. And queen of queens whose kingdom
Is endless time and longer still,

16. She brought a symbol, a fruitful mountain,
Shading, to which the mountains bowed down,

17. The angels served it until they rose
Above their thrones and couches,

18. The cherubim host is but for her
An army in her noble court assembled,

19. The luminous celestial atlas but through her
Beams, and in it her light is fairest,

20. The heaven of glory with splendor
But Mary is its perfect full moon,

21. The lofty beautiful celestial world
But through her the noblest and most beautiful,

22. No dwelling in the Lote Tree of the extremity
Except through her a dwelling is exalted,

23. The perfect ones, unique in their essence,
Except that Mary among them is most perfect,

24. They attained complete perfection, but without
Mary’s hand, they would not have been perfected,

25. She who has no beginning, the Eternal
Chose her in the first eternity,

26. And selected her as a vessel to carry Him,
Without prior seed implanted to conceive,

27. A virgin mother - who has seen
A mother and virgin whose matter astounds?

28. God fashioned for Himself in her womb
A human garment, its beauty immaculate,

29. Whosoever the heavens’ expanse does not favor
Humankind seizes him, the lowest of the low,

30. TheBearer of the two worlds in His grasp
In Mary’s arms is cradled,

31. O best of God’s creation, I have none but
Your grace, O ultimate aim of my request,

32. You are Aaron’s staff, for it brought forth
So who has seen a dry staff blossom?

33. You are the holiest of holies, then the Veil,
the Throne, the Ark, and the Temple,

34. The place of forgiveness, the sea of bounty,
In its waters our sins are washed away,

35. The jar of manna and bread of presence
The Giver of purity to those who partake,

36. I beseech you, Mother of God, show me favor
For I am a wretched weakling,

37. Do not abandon me for I am a seeker
Of your gifts, and seekers are not rejected,

38. As if my heart aches and is not soothed
By entertainers or chanters,

39. Time has burdened it with its difficulties
So my tears for its sorrows accumulate,

40. To you I have come thirsty, hoping for water,
For you are the wellspring and pool,

41. I have transcended in your love all distraction,
My mind - the distracted cannot concentrate,

42. You are absolved of all stigma
That our first ancestor bequeathed us,

43. It is as if you were excluded from all creation
From what the Most Just Judge decreed,

44. For you are God’s sign in His creation,
Explaining the ambiguous and making clear the whole,

45. I have not exaggerated in praising you except that
The scent of acclaim and sweet basil still wafts,

46. Upon you forever, whether southern winds blow
Greetings, or the evening star rises,
