1. When Muttalib passed away, modesty died
Fear and awe perished too.
١. مات الثلاثةُ لما ماتَ مُطلبُ
مات الحياءُ وماتَ الرعبُ والرهَبُ
2. For Allah, four were shrouded in one funeral cloth-
Now Islam and the Arabs mourn them.
٢. للّهِ أربعةٌ قد ضمهُم كَفَنٌ
أضحى يُعزّى به الاسلامُ والعَرَبُ
3. O day of Muttalib, you made our eyes weep,
Then bleed, for as long as eras continue.
٣. يا يومَ مُطّلِبٍ أبكيتَ أعيُنِنا
بعدَ الدموع دَماً ما دامَت الحقَبُ
4. So pass away like the floods of rain-fed valleys that poured
Onto the earth before the grass turned green.
٤. فاذهب ذهابَ غوادي المزنِ ما سَفَحَت
صَوباً على الأرض أوما اخضرَّت العُشُبُ
