1. O you who rises with his cheeks in my affliction
What has disappeared beneath its excuse from his cheek
١. يا مُطْلِعاً بصُدوده في لِمَّتي
ما غاب تحت عِذاره من خدّه
2. For you a critic who cast his whiteness upon me
And was jealous of my hair over its blackness
٢. لك عارضٌ أَلقى عليَّ بياضَه
وأَغار من شعري على مُسْوَدِّه
3. And I think since your cheek feared its plunder
It has set a fence over the garden of its roses
٣. وأَظنُّ خدَّك مُذْ تخوَّف نَهْبَه
ضَرَب السّياج على حديقةِ وَرده
