١. أَما عند هذا القَوام الرُّدَيْني
سجيّةُ عَطْف تقاضاه دضيْني
2. I think this prolonged separation

٢. وأَحسبُ ما طال هذا المِطا
ل إِلاّ ليلحق حَيْناً بحَيْنِ
3. Strangely I complain of the harshness
Of a tender bough of acacia,
٣. ومن عَجَبٍ أَنني أَشتكي
قساوةَ غُصنٍ من البان لَيْنِ
4. With two glances like arrows
Shot from two bows of eyebrows.
٤. رماني بسهميْن من ناظريْن
عن مَتْنِ قوسيْن من حاجبينِ
5. If my tearful eyes deny it
Ask the blush of my two cheeks,
٥. وإِنْ أَنكرت مقلتاه دمي
فسائلْ به حُمرةَ الوَجْنتيْنِ
6. Why do his eyes not refute me
When they know the admission of my eyes?
٦. وَلِمْ لا تُناكرُني عينُه
وقد علمت كيف إِقرار عيْني
7. I have no opponent but my own eyes,
Is there an arbitrator between my eyes and me?
٧. وماليَ خصمٌ سوى ناظري
فهل حاكم بين عَيْني وبيْني
8. You have wronged and filled hearts with pain,
You have poured cruelty and filled hands.
٨. أَصَبْتَ عِدىً فملأتَ القلوب
وصُبْتَ يداً فملأْت اليديْن
9. It's as if you see no comfort
Other than rubbing salt into my wounds.
٩. كأَنّك لستَ ترى راحةً
سوى حَثْوِ مالِك بالرّاحَتيْن
10. I ransom you with one weeping
Over his lost fortune like an orphan over his parents.
١٠. فداؤك باكٍ على ماله
بكاءَ اليتيم على الوالديْن
