1. O the one whose glance melts my heart,
O the precious one, through whom I knew humility,
١. يا غريراً غَرّ الفؤادَ المُدَلَّة
يا عزيزاً به عَرَفتُ المَذّلَّهْ
2. By my father, that angel, even if in the morning
I was killed by one who has no inclination,
٢. بأَبي ذلك المَلاك وإِن أَصبح
من قَتلتي على غير مِلَه
3. Whenever the maidens looked upon him,
I was freed from his powerful enchantment,
٣. كلّما ناظَرَ العواذلُ فيه
رُحْتُ من دَلِّه قويَّ الأَدِلَّه
4. O you who forbid my union,
How could you neglect a longing heart?
٤. أَيّها الشادنُ المحرِّمُ وَصْلي
كيف أَغفلتَ مُقْلَةً مُسْتَحِلَّه
5. And if her glance was the cause
Of sickness, why was it said she is impaired?
٥. وإِذا كان لحظها سببَ
السُّقْم فلِمْ قيل إِنها مُعْتَلَّه

And it is known from my passion that I
٦. ومن الوجد في العَلاقة أَني
لا أَمَلّ الصُّدود حتى تَمَلَّه
7. Do not hope for indifference until it changes,
Tell him of my affliction and sickness,
٧. حَدِّثوه بعلَّتي وسَقامي
فعسى أَن يَرِقَّ لي ولَعَلَّه
8. Perhaps he may show me mercy, maybe he will,
Ah! From one whom when I raised to him
٨. آه مِمَّنْ إِذا رفعتُ إِليه
من غرامي أَدقَّه وأجَلَّه
9. The most delicate and refined of my passion,
He dismissed the reins of complaint, and had
٩. ردَّ رُزْمامَجَ الشَّكاةِ وقد
وقَّع لي فيه صحَّ والحمدُ لله
10. Signed for me "Health" and "Thanks be to God",
An equitable look, as if the pillar
١٠. نظراً عادلاً كأَنّ عماد
الدّين من لفظه عليه أَمَلَّه
11. Of religion, he has entrusted to his utterance,
Shining is his love to me from afar,
١١. أَلمعيّاً هواه عندي على
البُعْد مُوَلّىً على فؤادي المُوَلَّه
12. In charge of my infatuated heart,
With a hand that wards off the blows of fate,
١٢. ذا يدٍ ذائِداً بها نُوَبَ ال
دَّهْر فكم ردّها بأَبرح غُلَّه
