1. Beware of us wherever precaution avails,
For our swords spare neither and leave naught.

2. Where can the kings who share God's power flee from a king
Whose steed is victory - nay, Destiny itself?

3. Ask the swords, still in their sheaths, which with them
Thrust not once, nor drew a blade or bared it,

4. Until pillar of the faith overwhelmed them all
In a strait where eyes dazzle to see.

5. Ways were straitened for them, though spacious their bounds,
And death afforded no refuge or excuse.

6. Between them and escape was a distant span,
Long though it be where their dwelling spread.

7. Now faith sees no more eye or trace,
While unbelief fears no eye or vestige.

8. Fear no more the whole Frankish race,
For if they march, defeat mars their ranks.

9. If they fight, they perish; if they battle, are routed;
If they besiege, are hemmed in.

10. Long had reckless folly held them in its grasp
Till came a king whose thoughts were wise.

11. The sword was bared against their own necks
And thereafter was called the well-drawn blade.

12. Never did gleam of champion of justice depart
Like the dawn banishing all they spread.

13. Nor did victory abandon the supporters of his realm,
As it was, though they supported him.

14. Till the borderlands of Syria smile again
As if Omar had come to rest in their bosoms.
