1. The garden smiled when the rain wept
So for spring there are meadows adorned with flowers
١. تَضاحَكَ الرَوضُ لَمّا أَن بَكى المَطَرُ
فَلِلرَبيعُ رُبوعٌ زانَها الزَهَرُ
2. For God the twittering of the warbler when it began
And roses are strung and scattered blossoms scattered
٢. لِلَّهِ نَمنَمَةُ النَمامِ حينَ بَدَت
وَالوَردُ يُنظَمُ وَالمَنثورُ يَنتَثِرُ
3. So drink happily in the light of the crescent at dawn
For the birds sing what the strings do not sing
٣. فَاِشرَب هَنيئاً عَلى ضَوءِ الهَزارِ ضُحىً
فَالطَيرُ تُطرِبُ ما لا يُطرِبُ الوَتَرُ
4. And take the cup from a full moon circulating among them
A gazelle with the glances of a houri in its eyes
٤. وَبادِرِ الكَأسَ مِنَ بَدرٍ يَطوفُ بِها
ظَبيٌ مِنَ الحورِ في أَلحاظِهِ حَوَرُ
5. For this is comfort and basil accompanying it
And the river and the flowers and the yellow and the moon
٥. فَهَذِهِ الراحُ وَالرَيحانُ يَصحَبُها
وَالنَهرُ وَالزَهرُ وَالقُمرِيُّ وَالقَمَرُ
6. Beauties and the majesty of God - did grief and thought ever cease
Except that sorrows and thoughts withered away
٦. مُحاسِنٌ وَجَلالِ اللَهِ ما التَأَمَت
إِلّا تَصَرَّمَتِ الأَحزانُ وَالفِكَرُ
