1. I plucked the blackness from my temples
In youth with forceful plucking
١. نَتَفتُ السَوادَ مِن العارِضينَ
عِندَ الشَبيبَةِ نَتفاً عَنيفا
2. Then when I grew old I plucked the whiteness
After passion's heat, pliantly
٢. فَلَمّا كَبِرتُ نَتَفتُ البَياضَ
وَقَد صارَ بَعدَ الجَنى الغَضِّ ليفا
3. If people knew of both these states
They'd give me the name of "Plucker" solely
٣. فَلَو عَلِمَ الناسُ بِالحالَتَينِ
لَما لَقَّبوني إِلّا النَتيفا
