١. في كُلِّ يَومٍ رِحلَةٌ وَمَقامُ
وَوَداعُ مَن أَحبَبتُهُ وَسَلامُ
2. The hands of destiny cast us as arrows
As though a bow, and we the arrows
٢. قَذَفَت بِنا أَيدي النَوى جوزَ الفَلا
وَكَأَنَّها قَوسٌ وَنَحنُ سِهامُ
3. Send no message with the dove
In my heart is agony and passion from it
٣. لا تَبعَثَنَّ مَعَ الحَمامِ رِسالَةً
في القَلبِ مِنها لَوعَةٌ وَغَرامُ
4. For lovers, books are like
What awakens, while doves are doves
٤. فَالكُتُبُ عِندَ العاشِقينَ كَأَنَّها
مِمّا يُهَيِّجُ وَالحَمامُ حِمامُ
5. Who will grant me hunting gazelles in Mecca
When hunting in the sacred land is taboo
٥. مَن لي بِصَيدِ ظِباءِ مَكَّةَ مَوهِناً
وَالصَيدُ في البَلَدِ الحَرامِ حَرامُ
6. No sandgrouse moved or sang
Except it seemed to you fading and plucked
٦. وَمُهَفهَفٍ ما اِهتَزَّ تيهاً أَو رَنا
إِلاّ بَدا لَكَ ذابِلٌ وَحُسامُ
7. In his eyes a paradise and hell
And in his eyelids health and sickness
٧. في وَجنَتَيهِ جَنَّةٌ وَجَهَنَّمٌ
وَبِمُقلَتَيهِ صِحَّةٌ وَسَقامُ
8. I did not shoot that gazelle but it stopped me
From its field, old age and Islam
٨. ما رُمتُ ذاكَ الظَبيَ إِلّا صَدَّني
عَن ساحَتَيهِ الشَيبُ وَالإِسلامُ
