1. The cheek of spring blushed red
Ashamed of the dew it shed

2. While the violets bowed their heads
When they saw the cheeks of the beloved turn red

3. I saw autumn sniff the breath of winter
And turn yellow out of fear when it appeared

4. And saw its flooding armies advance
As it cast off its robe of lilac

5. The clouds scatter pearls and its branches
With the palms of leaves scatter chamomile

6. The stars, the darkness lined with kohl
Since it left them blinking in the sky

7. A meadow smiled at the pilgrims with a smile
For the meadow of sweet and new and old

8. None tasted the siesta there but a watcher
Of the tender, youthful narcissus who dozed
