1. O Abu al-Husain, listen to the words of a young man
Who is hasty in what he says, so respond in verse

2. This is Abu al-Wahsh, he has come seeking refuge
So greet him when he arrives

3. And recite to them with your eloquent explanation whatever
I have conveyed of his affairs in summary

4. And inform the people that he is a man
The likes of whom people have never seen before

5. His traits spare any description of him
No reasonable person would seek to replace him

6. And he is always swift despite his lightness
Admitting that he is of the heavy ones

7. He is pleased with fabrics and patches and slippers
As for anything else, no.

8. If you engage him to inform you of what
Flows from him, you have opened a stream from him

9. Call him if the matter of lowliness and ease befalls
And welcome him when he returns

10. And give him poison if you can seize him
And mix for him your honeyed saliva
