1. For the eyes that I have pledged my heart to
And they opposed me and turned me away persistently

2. I solicit all the chaste meanings
And implore them for deliverance to my will

3. And I scatter the cloud of structured poetry
And ask that it roams in every valley

4. And I clothe my bare ideas beautifully
With the garment of yearning and affection

5. And I send him greetings without greeting
And offer him an embrace without union

6. But his love has truly become excessive
Blazing both nearby and from afar

7. So I have devoted to him an elegy
Sublime, in misguidance and righteousness

8. And whenever they say I have persisted
I light for his lofty fate my flint
