1. Remember your sins, O forgetful one,
And seek forgiveness from Allah, Lord of mankind.

2. Knock in regret on what your years have passed,
And pour from cups of tears.

3. Remove your hands from this world, and do not
Occupy yourself with these four worthless things.

4. Line your eyelids with wakefulness, for only
Your Beloved is pleased with the utmost vigilance.

5. How can you sleep when nothing prevents His union?
You have erred by opposing all reason.

6. He who spends the night intoxicated with the nearness of his Beloved,
His eyelids will not be touched by drowsiness.

7. If He had found you never faltering, you would not
Have forgotten a Beloved you did not find with people.

8. If only you felt the ecstasy in Him,
If only you saw sickness as the best clothing.

9. Look after yourself before your soul's departure,
And remember in your grave the scarcity of companions.

10. O You who guided us with the gifts of guidance,
And revived the mention of religion after neglect.

11. My soul greeted you with a pouring greeting,
And the most precious breath returned to you.

12. Through your blessings I hope for a prayer
From a believer, built on the foundation of success.

13. From a restless mind, full of risky thoughts,
From the great burdens of obsession and doubt.

14. And a mind inclined to evil, a mind
That has dimmed and fallen into hopelessness.

15. Your sermons shook hearts longing
Until they softened every stubborn heart.

16. So quench them after misguidance with guidance,
You are the healer, and you are the comforter.
