1. Baghdad, abode of kings, once was
Until it was ruined by him who ruined it

2. No kingdom’s joy has been absent from it
Except it returned to a land other than it

3. No one rejoiced in the joy of someone
Rather it is misery for whoever sees it

4. My Lord hastened its destruction
Despite the nose of him who built it
